India‘s white-ball captain Rohit Sharma, who missed out on South Africa tour, has made a return in India’s both white-ball squads as the selectors have announced an 18-member squad both ODI and T20I series against West Indies starting on February 6. Ravi Bishnoi got his maiden call-up in both formats while Deepak Hooda also earned a surprise call for the ODI series.

Ravi Bishnoi impressed one and all in the two seasons for Punjab Kings as he picked 24 wickets in 23 matches with an exceptional economy of 6.97. He was also one of three players who was picked by the Lucknow franchise ahead of the auction.

India had a horrendous tour of South Africa where they were whitewashed by 0-3 in the ODI series. One of the big areas of concern was the lack of wickets in the middle overs so selectors once again went with Kuldeep Yadav in ODIs and reunited his partnership with Yuzvendra Chahal. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami have been rested to manage their workload. Avesh Khan will add some spark to India’s pace attack in both squads.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Venkatesh Iyer were dropped from the ODI squad while they made the cut in the T20I squad. Bhuvi couldn’t pick a single wicket in the series against South Africa while Venkatesh Iyer didn’t make much impression in his debut ODI series as well. Washington Sundar who missed out on the South Africa tour due to Covid-19 has also been inducted into both squads.

Axar Patel will be available for the T20I series only as he needs more time to recover from injury. While Ravindra Jadeja will remain on the sidelines as he is undergoing his final stage of recovery post his knee injury.
