Former Pakistan captain Salman Butt believes that India’s chances will depend on Virat Kohli’s batting form. Despite all the noise around his captaincy, it’s his runs that will determine the series result. Notable that India hasn’t won a Test series in the rainbow nation in their previous 7 attempts.
Virat Kohli’s form of late hasn’t been great either. Since November 2019, the Indian Test skipper hasn’t scored a century in any of the formats.
“If Kohli plays well, then a lot of things could be swept under the carpet”
In a live session on his Youtube Channel, Salman Butt spoke on length about various aspects of Indian cricket.
“Virat Kohli’s role as captain and as a player has become all the more important in the absence of the experienced Rohit Sharma. Looking at his current form, it’s about time he delivers big.” Butt said.
Former Pakistan captain also believed that some big runs in this series could solve various issues for Virat Kohli. He said that everything would be swept under the carpet if he plays well.
“Both Kohli and BCCI have handled their issues in the right way. If he plays well and wins the series then a lot of things could be swept under the carpet. That’s how it works.” Butt stated.
In the previous South Africa tour 2017-18, India lost the Test series by 1-2 under the captaincy. So this time he would be more pumped to turn things around. First Test will start on December 26 at SuperSport Park, Centurion.
