The day one of the Visakhapatnam Test was interrupted by the rain but no bowler was able to interrupt Rohit Sharma in hitting the century. In the first day of the first Test match against South Africa, India had a good start. All the queries for the Test opener were answered by Rohit’s bat. Whether he will be successful in a Test match or whether he will be good as Test opener, all answers were given on the first day.
Rohit Sharma played his natural game and as usual hit boundaries. The Proteas used every bowling style but nobody can halt the opener in scoring runs. Rohit Sharma has played as an opener in the limited-overs format. His experience has helped him achieve the new feat in the longest format.
Before this match, he has played as the middle-order batsman in the Test career. The match played against South Africa will be his first century as the Test opener and in total, he has scored four centuries. Also, he became the first Indian opener to score centuries in all the international formats.
It was less of technique, more of application: VVS Laxman on Rohit Sharma’s latest Test century
Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman opines about the performance of Rohit Sharma. He praises the way the batsman has played and said that Rohit’s experience had helped him scoring runs.
“It was less of technique, more of application. He knew he had to go through the opening spell of Kagiso Rabada and Vernon Philander who I thought bowled really well. They didn’t give away anything to the Indian openers. The way he used his experience was great to see,” VVS Laxman told Star Sports on Wednesday.
“He left a lot of balls, played with a lot of patience. The way he used his crease against Philander was good to see. All the doubts people had as to whether Rohit Sharma would be successful in Test match cricket, especially as an opener. All those doubts are erased. I just hope continues. He has got a good opportunity to score a big hundred.”
