England’s Pathetic Performance In Ashes May See ECB Barring Them From Playing IPL 2022

England has produced a pathetic performance in the ongoing 2021-22 Ashes series against Australia. The Joe Root-led side has already surrendered the series and is currently 0-3 down after 4 Tests concluded.

The below-par performances of the England cricketers in Ashes have now put their participation in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in jeopardy. It has been learned that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is planning to conduct a full review into England’s defeat Down Under.

England May Ban Test Cricketers From Participating In IPL 2022 After Ashes 2021/22 Defeat: Report

According to a report, director of cricket Ashley Giles would be preparing a report which will include a number of recommendations to improve the Test team’s fortunes. Baring English cricketers from taking part in the IPL would be one of the ideas.

The Indian T20 league usually lasts two months, however, this year it’s set to get longer with the introduction of two new teams namely Ahmedabad and Lucknow. The IPL 2022 is set to clash with the initial phase of England’s Test summer as the knockout stages are likely to overlap with their first Test against New Zealand in June.

The IPL 2022 players auction is scheduled to take place in February in which a lot of England players are expected to take part. So far, only Jos Buttler and Moeen Ali have been retained by their respective franchises. It has also been learned that the players participating in the IPL will be asked to cut short their time in India so that they can feature in some domestic games to prepare for the New Zealand Tests.

Michael Atherton Criticized England Cricketers For Emphasizing IPL Over International Fixtures

On the other hand, former England players have time and again criticized current players for emphasizing IPL over international fixtures. Michael Atherton, former England captain, stressed the fact that the cricketers should not miss national duties for the cash-rich T20 league.

“The leading multi-format players are paid seven-figure sums, but, incredibly, the ECB washes its hands of them for two months of the year during the Indian Premier League,” Atherton wrote in his column.

“The players should be told that, while the ECB will be accommodating of the request to play in IPL, a 12-month contract is exactly that, and the granting of a no-objection certificate to play in IPL and other franchised competitions is contingent on it being in the best interests of the England team,” he added.

Also, from 2022, the Indian Premier League is set to become grander, as the Indian T20 League will be a 10-team affair. This means that there would be more matches, and the tournament might extend into June. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has decided to retain the services of all-rounder Moeen Ali, while the Rajasthan Royals (RR) have retained Jos Buttler.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerged as the champions of the 2021 edition of the IPL, and won the IPL title for the 4th time, beating the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side in the summit clash of the tournament. A total of 27 players were retained in the retention list by the eight existing teams. Ace players like Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Kane Williamson have been retained by their respective teams ahead of the mega auction in 2022.

Eoin Morgan, who led Kolkata Knight Riders to IPL 2021 final, was released by the franchise. Ahead of the second leg of IPL 2021, Jonny Bairstow (SRH), Dawid Malan (PBKS), and Chris Woakes (DC) had pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons.

All three players were released by their respective franchises. Ben Stokes and pacer Jofra Archer also were released by the franchise after they couldn’t participate in the entire season due to various injuries. Punjab Kings duo of Chris Jordan and Adil Rashid along with Delhi Capitals pacer Tom Curran are the other released players from England.

List of England players to be available for IPL 2022 auction: Adil Rashid, Ben Stokes, Chris Jordan, Chris Woakes, Dawid Malan, Eoin Morgan, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Liam Livingstone, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Jofra Archer (doubtful).

Eoin Morgan Feels Eye Catching T10 Format Can Be Played In Olympics

Eoin Morgan feels the Olympics is a huge opportunity to grow the game of cricket by including the T10 format in the showpiece event.

England skipper Eoin Morgan came out in support of the T10 format being included in the Olympic Games as the 10-over game is a sort of “eye-catching entertainment” and is fan-friendly too.

Eoin Morgan Is A Huge Fan Of T10 And Wants The Format To Be Included In The  Olympics

In addition to numerous modern-day tried and tested white-ball players, namely Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali, Chris Jordan, Faf du Plessis, T10 League 2021 comprises four retired Indian cricketers in Yusuf Pathan, Munaf Patel, Abhimanyu Mithun and Yo Mahesh (157 domestic matches across formats).

“I am not actually quite sure because I am always trying to bring in new ideas and grow the game even bigger. The Olympics is a huge opportunity to do that. Ever since I have played T10, it’s sort of eye-catching entertainment because I am a huge fan,” said Morgan on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi T10 League where he is playing for Delhi Bulls.

“All my family and friends watch the game and they go out and come back and watch another game. It’s very fan-friendly and if you are looking to sell our game to people who haven’t watched cricket before, I think it’s a really flexible way to do that.”

“Introduce them to watch different formats and I haven’t found a better way than T10 for a format to play in the Olympics,” he added.

Delhi Bulls have won all their three games in the ongoing T10 League, and Eoin Morgan feels the team can go on to win the title this year.

“We have a strong team and missing Jason Roy obviously hurts us. We have plenty of talent and are looking forward to it,” said Morgan.

Earlier this year, the ICC had confirmed that it will bid for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Eoin Morgan: Dwayne Bravo Will Be Key To Delhi Bull’s Success

The England skipper, who is playing under the leadership of T20 legend Dwayne Bravo, feels the former West Indies all-rounder will be a key player if Delhi Bulls win the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

“I think it will be huge, Bravo is one of the most experienced T20 cricketers in the world if not the most, you think how long he has been around and how many games he has played,” said Morgan.

“The biggest factor that he is a winner and won competitions around the world and won the T20 World Cup as well, so he is going to be essential and hopefully achieving success,” he signed off.

Eoin Morgan believes that the T10 format of cricket is an eye-catching entertainment, and it can be played in the Olympics. Morgan, who is currently plying his trade for Delhi Bulls in T10 League 2021-22, lauded Dwayne Bravo and feels that the veteran all-rounder can lead the team to a title win.

The Abu Dhabi T10 cricket league is a 10-over format game, and six teams, namely Deccan Gladiators, Chennai Braves, Team Abu Dhabi, Bangla Tigers, Northern Warriors, and Delhi Bulls, are competing with each other in the tournament. The 2021-22 edition, which started on November 19, will take place for 15 days, and the summit clash will be held on December 4.

Ross Taylor Expressed Elation As The Kiwis Defeated England In 2021 T20I World Cup Semi Final

Ross Taylor, senior New Zealand batter, expressed elation as the Kiwis defeated England in the semi-final of the ongoing T20 World Cup.

Daryl Mitchell’s superb unbeaten fifty fired New Zealand into their first-ever ICC men’s T20 World Cup final following a thrilling win over England on Wednesday.

Ross Taylor Elated As New Zealand Beats England In Semi-Final

Ross Taylor, who was left out of the New Zealand T20 World Cup squad, also praised Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham for their gusty knocks. Veteran batsman Ross Taylor was selected for the three ODIs in Pakistan, which ultimately didn’t happen but, with the brief nature of the one-week series and the length of quarantine protocols, it was mutually agreed he would remain at home to prepare for the Indian Test tour and upcoming home summer.

“What a win @BLACKCAPS. Well batted @dazmitchell47 and @JimmyNeesh,” Ross Taylor tweeted.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell said the Kiwis will give “everything” they’ve got to win their maiden T20 World Cup title on Sunday.

“Look, we’re a bunch of Kiwis. There are only 5 million of us, so we’re obviously very proud to be representing our country. Yeah, obviously we’ve had some success in the last few years,” said Mitchell in the press conference as per ICC.

“But we’re going to enjoy the win tonight, make sure that obviously, we celebrate that, but then we move on pretty quickly. We know that we have a final on Sunday, and whoever we’re taking on should be good fun. We’ll give it everything we’ve got, but at the end of the day there’s certain things you can’t control, so we’ll see what happens,” he added.

Chasing 167, New Zealand was on the back foot when key duo Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson were dismissed by Chris Woakes inside the first three overs of the reply.

Daryl Mitchell Hits Match Winning Unbeaten 72

But the ship was steadied by Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway, who added 82 for the third wicket before James Neesham whacked 27 from 11 balls to turn the tide in his side’s favour.

It was not until the 16th over of the second innings that either side seemed to grab the game, and at that point, it was England who briefly took control as Liam Livingstone ended his allocation by leaking just three and taking the wicket of Glenn Phillips. At that point, their opponents needed an apparently far-fetched 57 from 24, and Jimmy Neesham was fresh to the crease.

In the following over, Chris Jordan, England’s one genuine death-overs specialist, was completely marmalized by James Neesham. It turned into England’s most expensive of the tournament, 23 runs coming off it.

Jimmy Neesham fell to the last ball of the 18th over, but it hardly mattered, given what Daryl Mitchell was about to do to Chris Woakes. He had never scored an international T20 half-century but ended the most important game of his life unbeaten on 72 off 47 balls. It was New Zealand opener Daryl Mitchell who finished the job, hitting 25 off his last seven deliveries to win the semis with an over to spare.

New Zealand 167 for 5 (Mitchell 72*, Conway 46, Neesham 27; Livingstone 2-22) beat England 166 for 4 (Malan 41, Moeen 51*; Southee 1-24) by 5 wickets

T20 World Cup 2021: Brian Lara Disappointed With Reckless Batting From West Indies Who Scored Only 55 Against England

Brian Lara, the former West Indies captain, wasn’t impressed after watching his country fold for just 55 runs in the first innings of their opening match against England in Dubai in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. West Indies batting collapsed like a pack of cards as England bowlers enjoyed a field day after winning the toss.

Reacting to the reckless batting performance by the West Indies – they were bowled out for the lowest total by an ICC full-member nation in T20 World Cup – the legendary Brian Lara said he doesn’t have words to describe the batting approach. This is also the third-lowest score overall in a T20 World Cup. The overall lowest total in the T20 World Cup still stands with the Netherlands, who were bowled out for 39 in the 2014 World Cup against Sri Lanka.

Brian Lara Disappointed With Reckless Batting From West Indies Against England

A thumping win for England to begin their campaign in the 2021 T20I World Cup, and a bit of a damp squib as far as a repeat of last 2016 final, which was won by defending champions West Indies was concerned. England has a net run rate of 3.970 at this point, and West Indies the minus version of the same number.

West Indies lost nine of their 10 wickets, looking to hit a four or a six, while 59 of the 86 balls they faced were dots, and they did not attempt to rebuild after losing early wickets. Lendl Simmons (3), Evin Lewis (6), Shimron Hetmyer (9), Dwayne Bravo (5), Nicholas Pooran (1), Kieron Pollard (6), and Andre Russell (0) didn’t contribute much with the bat.

Losing all 10 wickets for just 55 runs, Brian Lara said during a Star Sports show covering the match, “It was disappointing, it was reckless, I don’t have words to describe this. As a West Indian, I’m very disappointed.”

Brian Lara said he doesn’t have words to describe the batting approach. Brian Lara’s 375 and 501 not out broke world records for the highest Test and first-class scores. Brian Lara is one of the few batsmen to score above 10,000 runs in both ODIs and Tests.

Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to put the West Indies batting to test at the Dubai International Stadium. Openers Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons initially showed signs of maturity, but that lasted for over. After that, England spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid bowled 6.2 overs for 19 runs and took six wickets between them.

Moeen Ali And Adil Rashid Stars For England

Moeen Ali bowled a superb line with clever variations in pace to dismantle the top-order. His figures of 2/17 in four overs included wickets of Lendl Simmons and Shimron Hetmyer. With pacers Tymal Mills, Chris Woakes, and Chris Jordan also pitching in with regular wickets from the other end, the West Indies backbone was jolted. West Indies did pick four wickets, three inside the powerplay, but the target of 56 was always chasable.

Soon, Adil Rashid unleashed one of the best spells of T20 spin bowling to capture four wickets in his quota of 2.2 overs. He bowled 12 dot balls, conceding only two runs. Finally, Chris Gayle ended as the top scorer for West Indies with 13 runs off 13 balls.

In reply, England stumbled a bit but overhauled the target in 8.2 overs and with six wickets remaining. Adil Rashid takes 4 for 2 as England bowl West Indies out for 55 and completes the chase inside nine overs. West Indies’ lowest T20I score is 45, against England in 2019.

Rohit Sharma And KL Rahul Will Open, Ishan Kishan Can Bat Anywhere In 2021 T20I World Cup: Salman Butt

Salman Butt, the former Pakistan skipper, reckons Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open the batting for India despite Ishan Kishan’s brilliant knock as an opener against England in a T20 World Cup 2021 warm-up game in Dubai on Monday. Ishan Kishan opened the batting with KL Rahul in India’s first warm-up clash ahead of the T20 World Cup.

While Ishan Kishan smashed 70 off 46 balls, KL Rahul made a blazing 51 off 24. The duo featured in an opening stand of 82 in 8.2 overs as India chased down a target of 189 with ease, winning the clash by seven wickets.

Salman Butt: Rohit Sharma And KL Rahul Will Open

On Monday, despite Ishan Kishan’s brilliant innings against England, Salman Butt opined that India will stick to the Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul opening pair.

Discussing India’s batting order for the T20 World Cup 2021, the former cricketer stated: “Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will open, I don’t think that will change. Ishan Kishan can bat one down or in the middle-order or after Virat Kohli. He is in amazing form and can bat anywhere in the batting order.”

Ishan Kishan (Image Credit: BCCI)

Speaking about youngster Ishan Kishan, Salman Butt added that he looked equally good against pace and spin. His 70 off 46 balls was studded with 7 fours and 3 sixes, and his strike rate was 152.17.

The 37-year-old elaborated: “I haven’t seen him in any kind of trouble either against the new ball or against the spinners. These are very good signs because he played Moeen Ali very well. Adil Rashid is a very good leg-spinner and he attacked him in rather impressive fashion. As an opener, he was confident against the fast bowlers as well.”

Ishan Kishan retired on 70, after which Rishabh Pant (29 not out) and Hardik Pandya (12 not out) took India past the finish line in 19 overs.

Salman Butt: It Looked Like KL Rahul Was Batting Against A Bowling Machine

While Ishan Kishan top-scored for India in the warm-up encounter against England on Monday, KL Rahul was equally impressive, smashing six fours and three sixes. His strike rate was a monumental 212.5-the best of the Indian innings as it came off only 24 balls.

Analyzing KL Rahul’s batting, Salman Butt said: “The highlight of India’s batting, according to me, was KL Rahul’s knock. If anyone wants to watch beautiful batting, they must watch KL Rahul bat. The way he took on England’s bowlers, it seemed like he was batting against a bowling machine. “

“He was able to hit the ball anywhere at his will. The standout aspect of his innings was that most of the shots he played were correct strokes. The kind of shots he played demonstrated the dangerous form that he is currently in.”

KL Rahul has an amazing T20 record. He has smashed 1557 runs in 49 T20Is at a strike rate of 142.19. In IPL 2021, he amassed 626 runs in 13 games and was the third-leading run-getter in the edition.
Earlier, England managed to score 188/5 after Jonny Bairstow’s 49 off 36 balls and Moeen Ali’s cameo of unbeaten 43 off 20 balls as Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar(4 overs, 54 runs, 0 wickets) was taken to the cleaners. Mohammed Shami conceded 40 runs, too, despite picking 3 scalps. For England, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, Moeen Ali, and Adil Rashid were too expensive as all of them conceded 10 runs per over or more.

Rishabh Pant Can Change The Course Of A Match With His Power Hitting: VVS Laxman

VVS Laxman believes Rishabh Pant’s batting position should be defined by the number of overs remaining considering the dashing wicketkeeper-batter’s match-winning abilities.

Rishabh Pant walked into bat at the No. 4 position during India’s run chase in their first T20 World Cup warm-up encounter against England. The southpaw smashed an unbeaten 29 off only 14 deliveries, including 1 four and 3 sixes to see his team across the finish line, chasing a stiff 189.

VVS Laxman: Rishabh Pant Can Change Course Of A Match With His Power Hitting

While reviewing the India-England warm-up encounter on Star Sports, VVS Laxman was asked if Rishabh Pant should continue to bat at No. 4 ahead of Suryakumar Yadav.

He responded: “I feel No. 4 is the right position for Suryakumar Yadav. Rishabh Pant can start at No. 5 but if two or three wickets have fallen around the 13th or 14th over, then Rishabh Pant can go and bat. I will pay more attention to the overs because Rishabh Pant is a batter who can change the course of a match with his power hitting.”

The former India cricketer added that game-changers like Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya need to be promoted based on the match situation.

VVS Laxman explained: “So I will send Rishabh Pant in as soon as 14 overs are done. Batters like Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya who can play the big shots and play the role of a finisher, showing that flexibility is extremely necessary.”

VVS Laxman was also happy that Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya had provided the finishing touches to India’s run chase. After KL Rahul’s 51 and Ishan Kishan’s 70, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya(12*) remained unbeaten as India managed to cross the 189 run target in the penultimate over.

“I feel 40 runs were required off the last four overs and you can see a similar situation in the main round of the World Cup, so it was a proper warm-up match as you saw the challenges you will see in the main round.”

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are expected to play the finishers’ role for Team India. However, the latter has not been at his best lately, and the Indian team will hope that he regains his touch before the actual tournament begins.

VVS Laxman: No. 3 Is The Right Position For Virat Kohli

VVS Laxman was also asked about Virat Kohli’s decision to bat at No. 3.

He replied: “I feel it is the right position for him because you have experienced opening batsmen in KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. And the way Ishan Kishan is batting, I am feeling that he is going to force the team management to play him in the playing XI but No. 3 is the right position for Virat Kohli.”

Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli (BCCI)

Virat Kohli, who batted at No. 3 in yesterday’s warm-up encounter, scored 11 runs off 13 deliveries. However, he wasn’t at his fluent best and will hope for a longer hit in the middle during the second warm-up match against Australia.

Mohammed Shami conceded 40 runs despite picking 3 scalps. For England, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Chris Jordan, Moeen Ali, and Adil Rashid were too expensive as all of them conceded 10 runs per over or more.

MS Dhoni Doubts Whether He Will Play For CSK In IPL 2022

MS Dhoni has no doubt that he would be seen in the yellow jersey of CSK even in 2022 but at this point, he does not know whether he would represent his franchise Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2022 as there are uncertainties about retention policy and addition of two new teams.

Speaking after the toss for CSK’s IPL game against Punjab Kings, the 40-year-old was asked about whether he would be staying with the franchise which is synonymous with him since the IPL’s inception.

MS Dhoni Doubts Whether He Will Play For CSK As There Are Uncertainties About Retention Policy And Addition Of Two New Teams In IPL 2022

MS Dhoni is a name that needs no introduction. After winning the maiden World T20 in 2007 and 2011 ODI World Cup after a hiatus of 28 years to leading Chennai Super Kings to three Indian Premier League titles, the list of MS Dhoni’s achievements in white-ball cricket matches doesn’t have an end. In the shortest format, the wicket-keeper batsman has 6917 runs to his name at an average of 38.21 and a strike rate of 134.18.

“Well, you can see me in yellow next year. But whether I will be playing for CSK? There are a lot of uncertainties around it for a simple reason that we have two new teams coming up,” he said referring to the IPL’s expansion into a 10-team competition from next season.

“We don’t know the retention policy. We don’t know how many foreigners, Indian players we can retain, the money cap that every player will be cutting from the kitty. So there are a lot of uncertainties. Unless the rules are in place, you can’t really decide that. So we will wait for it to happen and hopefully it will be good for everyone,” he added.

MS Dhoni scored exactly 200 runs in IPL 2020, averaging a below-par 25 while managing only 96 runs in IPL 2021 in 14 games averaging a dismal 13.71. His strike rate is also below 120 both times and below 100 this season.

MS Dhoni Might Bid Farewell In IPL 2022 In His Home Ground Chennai For CSK

The comment on the day is bound to create a flutter as earlier this week while interacting with fans during the 75th year celebrations of ‘India Cements’, MS Dhoni dropped elaborate hints that he will be seen playing the next season with his franchise CSK.

“When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see me play for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there,” Dhoni had said.

If team sources are to be believed then CSK is keen to retain three players — MS Dhoni, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and prolific opener Ruturaj Gaikwad. The iconic former India captain has not played in Chennai since 2019 as the 2020 IPL was held in the UAE. During the first leg of this year’s edition, CSK played its matches in Mumbai before the league was suspended due to a breach in the bio-bubble.

Captain KL Rahul set the stage on fire with the bat as Punjab Kings (PBKS) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by six wickets in Match 53 of the IPL 2021 in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The right-hander hammered an unbeaten 98 off 42 balls, hitting 7 fours and 8 sixes, as PBKS, who needed 135 runs to win, chased down the target in 13 overs. Earlier, CSK, who were put in to bat, remained unchanged, while PBKS brought in Chris Jordan in place of Nicholas Pooran.

Brief Scores: Punjab Kings 139/4 (KL Rahul 98*, Aiden Markram 13; Shardul Thakur 3/28) beat Chennai Super Kings 134/6 (Faf du Plessis 76, Ravindra Jadeja 15; Chris Jordan 2/20, Arshdeep Singh 2/35) by 6 wickets.

Deepak Chahar Proposed Jaya Bharadwaj After The Completion Of IPL 2021 League Match Between CSK And PBKS

Deepak Chahar’s father, Lokendra Singh Chahar, shed light on his son’s plans to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Jaya Bhardwaj. He revealed that CSK pace bowler Deepak Chahar wanted to propose during the playoffs, but MS Dhoni advised him to do it during the league game.

The CSK pacer stole the limelight yesterday during the aftermath of the match between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings in Dubai. After the game ended, the CSK pacer went into the stands, to make his grand romantic gesture on a positive note.

Deepak Chahar Proposed Jaya Bharadwaj During The League Much As Advised By MS Dhoni

He proposed to his girlfriend, Jaya Bhardwaj by going down on one knee. Deepak Chahar instantly received a positive ‘yes’ from his partner, which ensured a happy ending. Lokendra Singh Chahar opened up about his son’s eventful engagement at the cricket ground.

“At the behest of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, he changed his mind and proposed Jaya during the league match. Deepak’s plan was to propose Jaya during the playoff match. He had informed the team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni about this. However, MS Dhoni asked him to do so in a league match instead of the playoffs. After this Deepak changed his decision. “

The right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar showed magnificent form in the first leg, picking 2 four-wicket hauls. He has picked up 13 scalps from 13 games, averaged 30.23, and had an economy of 8.36.

Deepak Chahar Intimated Family Members Of His Plans To Propose Jaya Bhardwaj

Lokendra Singh Chahar also disclosed that his son had intimated family members beforehand of his plans to propose to Jaya Bhardwaj. Speaking about the duo’s marriage plans and family reaction, he said the pacer had given the information to the family.

“Deepak had given this information to the family. We were very happy about this. 180 countries have seen the ring ceremony of Deepak and Jaya. Both the families will sit together and decide the date of marriage when they come back.”

Even though Deepak Chahar had a memorable day off the field, he had a forgettable showing in CSK’s final league game of the season yesterday. He ended up with figures of 1/48 after bowling his four overs against PBKS.

Greg Hunt, the Australian health minister, said that their government is working to be “flexible and practical” to ensure the Ashes 2021/22 can go ahead. Still, the fate of the series ultimately lies in the hands of the touring party.

Australia has been “flexible and practical” to ensure that the England men’s cricket team will tour the country for the Ashes, but the fate of the series lies in the hands of the touring party, health minister Greg Hunt said on Tuesday.

Greg Hunt: Ashes 2021/22 Happening Lies In The Hands Of England, But Australia Are Working To Be Flexible And Practical

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said in a statement that it will decide this week whether the proposed arrangements in Australia are sufficient for the Ashes 2021/22 tour to go ahead. Greg Hunt said Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and sports minister Richard Colbeck had been working day and night with their British counterparts to ensure the series, which starts on December 8 in Brisbane, happens.

“Ultimately, it’s always in the hands of the touring party, but we’ve been working to be flexible and practical,” Greg Hunt told Sky News Australia on Tuesday.

“On the one hand, make sure that we have safety arrangements for Australia. On the other hand, to be practical and flexible to give that touring party every chance of coming here and to have the Ashes played this summer,” said Greg Hunt.

England captain Joe Root and other players have expressed doubts about the tour due to “bubble fatigue” and concerns their families will not be able to travel with them due to Australia’s strict COVID-19 protocols. As reported by local media, the five-Test series pours about 200 million AUD into Cricket Australia (CA) coffers through broadcast, sponsorship, and ticketing.

Australia’s health minister Greg Hunt said that the government is doing everything to ensure that England’s team can come and play the Ashes in December this year.

Cricket Australia Negotiating With England and Wales Cricket Board Over The Past 6 Months To Ensure Health And Wellbeing Of Both Squads

CA has been negotiating with authorities and the ECB over travel conditions and whether players’ families can visit during the Christmas and New Year periods.

“We have had regular and positive discussions with the ECB over the past six months on providing conditions which will allow players from both teams to perform at their best during the Ashes summer,” CA said in a statement.

“The health and wellbeing of both squads while ensuring the tour proceeds in a safe manner is a priority and we especially thank our government partners for all their support in this regard.”

Australia has strict limits on international arrivals and charges people thousands of dollars to isolate in designated quarantine hotels for a mandatory 14 days, regardless of their COVID-19 vaccination status. ECB said on Monday that its decision later this week could hinge on whether it can select a squad “befitting a series of this significance”.

“Later this week the ECB Board will meet to decide whether the conditions in place are sufficient for the Tour to go ahead and enable the selection of a squad befitting a series of this significance,” it said.

England and Wales Cricket Board warned the forthcoming Ashes 2021/22 will only go ahead if ECB can pick a squad “befitting a series of this significance”. The future of the Ashes tour will be settled by the end of this week.

The players and the England and Wales Cricket Board met over the weekend with representatives of Cricket Australia to discuss Covid-19  arrangements for the tour.  The players have been given the rest of the week to decide their availability, with doubts still existing over the strict quarantine rules for families and the strictness of the bubble once the team leaves quarantine.

England’s multi-format players, such as Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Mark Wood, Sam Curran, and Chris Woakes, wouldn’t be willing to spend up about four months away from their families as they will fly to Australia straight from the UAE, where the T20 World Cup will be held.

England Will Miss Ben Stokes And Jofra Archer

Team England will be very desperate to win the championship this time in the T20 World Cup 2021 as they came very close to winning the championship in 2016. Notably, Englishmen were defeated by West Indies in the finals of the T20 World Cup 2016 by 4 wickets.

England has been a dominant force in white-ball cricket lately, they have been one of the best teams in the World in ODIs and T20Is. They have explosive batters in top order, dependable all-rounders, and a fierce fast bowling unit.

In the last 10 T20 Internationals series England have played, they have faced loss only once, against Team India. However, Jofra Archer who is undoubtedly their best pacer will miss out on the marquee event. As he suffered a severe injury and has been ruled out of cricket for an entire year.

Meanwhile, star All-rounder Ben Stokes will also be unable to provide his services as he is on the break from cricket to focus on his mental well-being. The 2019 World Cup winners will be starting their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign with a high-profile battle against team West Indies. Team England will be looking forward to winning the T20 World Cup title after a decade as they won their first title in 2010 by defeating Australia by 7 wickets.
