Pat Cummins, the Australian Test skipper has revealed that he has signed up for the 2022 IPL mega auction. The right-arm pacer also confirmed that as things stand, he is willing to play the IPL.

Pat Cummins also added that a player should individually be aware of his workload, and said that some cricketers can manage their workload better than others.

Pat Cummins Have Signed Up For IPL 2022 Auctions

Pat Cummins made headlines after getting picked by KKR for a whopping amount of INR 15.50 crore in the IPL 2020 auction. He picked 21 wickets in his second stint with KKR but was not available for the UAE leg last season as he wanted to be with his wife for the birth of their child.

“I’ve signed up for the auction at this stage. I’ll probably have a bit more of a think about it before that auction date. At this stage, I plan to do the IPL. I have no advice for anyone else. I think you’ve got to be aware of (workloads), it could be a lot of time on the road, some people manage that better than others,” said Cummins as quoted by Cricket Australia.

Pat Cummins also added that a player should know what he is signing up for. Adding that he will have to endure the bubble life for some more time, the 28-year-old concluded by stating that people are aware of what they will have to go through.

“You have to know what you’re signing up for. It could be a long-ish winter but the last couple of winters have been quiet at home. The traditional tours are still a little way away, it will be bubbles for a little bit longer. Everyone has to be aware of it,” concluded Cummins.

Pat Cummins was last seen on a cricket field in the 5th Ashes 2021/22 Test match against England. He scalped a total of 7 wickets in the match and played a key role in helping the kangaroos thrash their arch-rivals by a margin of 146 runs.

Pat Cummins Took 38 Scalps In 37 IPL Games

Pat Cummins’ stint as the full-time Test skipper of the Australian side started in splendid fashion after Australia routed England by a margin of 4-0 in The Ashes series. Talking about the IPL, the right-arm seamer has played 37 matches in the tournament and has taken 38 wickets at an average of 30.13.

It was back to purple and gold for the pacer who picked 12 wickets in 14 games that included a 4-wicket haul in the 2020 IPL season. He bowled well in IPL 2021 picking 9 scalps in 7 games averaging 26.33 besides scoring 93 runs averaging 31. Although Pat Cummins missed the second Test in Adelaide after he was identified as a close contact of a COVID-19 positive case, he ended as the leading wicket-taker of the series.

Pat Cummins snubbed 21 wickets from four games, two more than his long-time teammate Mitchell Starc. This is the third time in a row that Pat Cummins picked the most wickets overall in the Ashes.

Australia’s 4-0 win against England in the Ashes Test series is the first feather in the hat of skipper Pat Cummins. He was named Australia’s captain ahead of the Ashes 2021/22 series and a sweeping victory will only boost his morale.

The skipper played just four Tests in the series but had scalped 21 wickets in the process. Pat Cummins will next lead the team to Pakistan in March, and he would want to continue the winning streak.  After 1998, this is the first time the Australian side is touring Pakistan.

In the tour, Australia and Pakistan will lock horns for three Tests, three ODIs, and one T20 international, starting from the 3rd of March to April 5.

Rohit Sharma Most Obvious Choice To Be Test Captain But There Are Serious Questions About His Fitness: Aakash Chopra

Aakash Chopra, former India opener has pointed out an important aspect about the Mumbai cricketer Rohit Sharma– his fitness. Several experts have backed Rohit Sharma, who is leading India in the limited-overs format, to take over the responsibilities in the longest format as well.

Rohit Sharma was scheduled to travel to South Africa as Virat Kohli’s deputy in the Test series and then would have led the side in the 3 ODIs. However, a hamstring injury ruled him out of the entire tour. Aakash Chopra, in his latest YouTube video, highlighted right-hand senior batter is an obvious choice but his fitness is a big question.

Aakash Chopra: There Are Serious Questions About Rohit Sharma’s Fitness For Hamstring Has Been Troubling Him Since 2020

The discussion on India’s next Test captain is getting more intense with every passing day. The experts are coming up with different names for the post vacated by Virat Kohli on Saturday. A day after losing the Cape Town Test, the Delhi-born cricketer took to social media and made the shocking announcement. Ever since he has stepped down, a number of suggestions have cropped up to fill in the space.

“Rohit Sharma seems to be the most obvious choice because he is the ODI and T20I captain at the moment and the last one year was a watershed event for him in Tests. But there are serious questions about his fitness because the hamstring is troubling him since 2020. In theory, it seems alright but will he be able to remain fit?” Aakash Chopra said.

Rohit Sharma’s hamstring injury, after replacing Ajinkya Rahane as Test vice-captain, ruled him out of the South Africa tour. It is known to have forced the selectors to have a long hard look at his fitness levels and workload. Rohit Sharma’s left hamstring injury had also prevented him from playing in all the matches in the 2020 IPL, followed by the limited-overs series in Australia and the first two Tests there.

Aakash Chopra: KL Rahul Also Seems To Be An Obvious Choice

The cricketer-turned-commentator further suggested that KL Rahul, who will lead the ODI team in South Arica, can also take the role, given his rapid rise in Test cricket.

“KL Rahul also seems to be an obvious choice. His stature has grown in Test cricket over the last one year. But it is also true that it has happened only after August. He was made to open and has not looked back since. But does he come across as your natural leader?” said Aakash Chopra.

KL Rahul’s life has taken a 180-degree turn over the last six months with a dramatic revival of his Test career. It was only six months ago that the keeper was nowhere near making India’s first-choice XI in Tests.

In fact, the right-handed opening batter did not feature in a Test match for India for two years between 2019 and 2021. However, injuries to Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal gave him an unexpected opportunity to open the innings in the tour to England with Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul has not looked back since.

KL Rahul captained India in Test cricket for the first time after Virat Kohli was ruled out of the second Test against South Africa due to upper back spasms. Earlier a hamstring injury led to Rohit Sharma not making the trip to South Africa and KL Rahul being elevated to the role of vice-captain.

KL Rahul will lead India in the three-match ODI series in South Africa starting on Wednesday 19th January. Rohit Sharma is expected to regain fitness to lead in the home ODI series against West Indies, starting on February 6.

Virat Kohli Refuses To Quit As Test Captain In His 100th Test At Bengaluru Against Sri Lanka

Virat Kohli had wanted could have quit as Test captain amid fanfare, after celebrating his 100th Test in Bengaluru, his IPL home, against Sri Lanka in late February.

A senior BCCI official offered a farewell match as captain to Virat Kohli and a gala in Bengaluru during a phone call on Friday when he conveyed the decision to step down.

Virat Kohli Refused To Quit As Test Skipper In His 100th Test At Bengaluru Against Sri Lanka

That meant Virat Kohli’s highly successful stint as Test skipper ended with a series and Test defeat. His predecessor, MS Dhoni, called an end to Test captaincy and even career after a draw in the 2014 Melbourne Test, after playing 90 matches, winning 27 Tests out of 60 Tests captained.

Virat Kohli refused. “One match makes no difference. That’s not how I am,” he is known to have said.

MS Dhoni is one of the two people Virat Kohli thanked in Saturday’s tweet announcing his resignation.

“A big thank you to MS Dhoni who believed in me as a Captain and found me to be an able individual who could take Indian Cricket forward,” he said.

Before making his decision public, Virat Kohli spoke with head coach Rahul Dravid, his teammates in the dressing room at Newlands cricket ground, and then to BCCI.  Virat Kohli was disappointed with the lost opportunity of beating South Africa despite taking the series lead.

While BCCI was happy to offer another series for Virat Kohli to lead, it is learned he wanted to give up the pressures and responsibilities that come as captain to focus on batting. Virat Kohli who scored two blazing hundreds on debut as Test captain in Adelaide seven years back was searching for form in his final match as captain, playing two important but laborious knocks at Cape Town. Virat Kohli has averaged 28.14 since January 2020.

“I have always believed in giving my 120 percent in everything I do, and if I can’t do that, I know it’s not the right thing to do. I have absolute clarity in my heart and I cannot be dishonest to my team,” Kohli said in tweet.

In a span of three months, India’s all-powerful, all-format captain will return to being only a player. Virat Kohli is so far the most successful Test captain India has ever had. Under his captaincy, India played a total of 68 Test matches of which the side won 40, drew 11, and lost 17 games.

Rohit Sharma Will Be Announced Test Skipper Only If The Selectors Are Convinced His Body Can Take Workload Of Leading Across Formats

BCCI is not in a hurry to announce Virat Kohli’s successor for Tests. A call would only be taken closer to the Sri Lanka Test series next month. Those under consideration are Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul. While Rohit Sharma is the designated vice-captain, the national selectors, it is learned, would give the nod only if they are convinced his body can take the workload of leading across formats.

India has a heavy schedule, both home and away, across formats in the next two years. It includes the T20 World Cup in October and the race to qualify for the 2023 World Test Championship final, followed by the ODI World Cup in India. KL Rahul is seen as the long-term alternative to rebuild the Test team, which is set for changes in batting.

A final decision will be taken in the upcoming weeks. Both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma will both be in action. KL Rahul will lead India in the three-match ODI series in South Africa starting on Wednesday 19th January. Rohit Sharma is expected to regain fitness to lead in the home ODI series against West Indies, starting on February 6.

Shreyas Iyer Is On The Radar Of RCB, KKR, And PBKS As All Of The 3 Franchises Are Targeting Him As Their Next Skipper

Shreyas Iyer, India’s limited-overs batter is on the radar of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who’s eyeing him as their next captain, revealed a source tracking the developments closely.

Despite scoring a century on his Test debut, Shreyas Iyer could not get a place in Indian Test XI in South Africa. But all that disappointment will soon be a thing of the past as a big opportunity is knocking on Shreyas Iyer’s doors. He is set to be in great demand before IPL 2022 auctions. Not one but 3 franchises are eyeing Indian limited over batsman as their new skipper.

Shreyas Iyer Is On The Radar Of RCB, KKR, And PBKS As Their Next Skipper

According to the available information, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS) – all 3 are ready to break the bank for Shreyas Iyer.

“Post Virat Kohli quitting the RCB captaincy, RCB are really interested in having Iyer as their next captain. Expect them to bid aggressively for the Mumbaikar in next month’s auction in Bangalore,” informed the source.

“The Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are also expected to eye him in the auction,” he said.

Shreyas Iyer, as is evident now, wants to be named as the captain of whichever franchise he plays for. The middle-order batter quit the Delhi Capitals after they appointed Rishabh Pant as their skipper. Post that, he didn’t join Lucknow or Ahmedabad as both franchises weren’t offering him the captaincy.

Shreyas Iyer Has Played 87 IPL Matches For Delhi Capitals From 2015-2021

Shreyas Iyer has earned 35.8 Cr in IPL Salaries to date. His last drawn salary from Delhi Capitals was 7 Cr. Overall he has played 7 IPL Seasons so far & has managed to earn 35.8 Cr in total salary. In 87 matches during this period, Shreyas Iyer has scored 2375 Runs at a Strike Rate of 124 averaging 31.67, playing all seasons from 2015-2021 for Delhi Capitals.

Ever since Delhi Daredevils became Delhi Capitals, the performance of the team on the points table also changed. In the last three years, the Delhi Capitals have qualified for the playoffs on all three occasions and came out as runner-up during the 2020 season.

Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, and Anrich Nortje are the 4 players that Delhi Capitals have retained for IPL 2022. Now, they have a purse of Rs. 47.50 crore which is available for the IPL 2022 auction. Apart from Shreyas Iyer, the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Ravichandran Ashwin, Avesh Khan, Kagiso Rabada, and Shimron Hetmyer were also released by the franchise.

Priyam Garg Advices U19 Indian Players Ahead Of WC 2022 To Not Lose Focus And Follow Process

Priyam Garg, who was the captain of the India U19 team in the previous edition of the tournament, has a piece of advice for the Indian Colts on how to approach the tournament. Former Indian cricketer Hrishikesh Kanitkar is the current head coach of India’s U19 team. Hrishikesh Kanitkar said the team needs to focus on the World Cup and not bother about IPL 2022 auctions.

India Under-19 team will kick off their World Cup campaign on Saturday as the Yash Dhull-led side plays against South Africa U19 team at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India U19 team have won four World Cup titles since winning for the first time in the year 2000 and followed the success in 2008, 2012 & 2018.

Priyam Garg: U19 World Cup Is A Shortcut Before Playing For India But Urges Players Not To Get Distracted By Fame And Attention

As India begins its ICC Under-19 World Cup campaign in the West Indies, the skipper at the previous edition says the tournament should be treated as a stepping stone to reach higher levels and advises the current batch not to be distracted by the sudden fame and attention that comes their way.

“It’s hard not to be nostalgic about the Under-19 World Cup. I remember our batch played continuous cricket throughout the year before the World Cup. We had series in South Africa, Sri Lanka and India. So preparation-wise, we were prepared mentally. We had gained some experience before the World Cup. It was a proud moment for me when I was handed the task to lead the team. It was a big platform and we tried hard to bring back the crown, but couldn’t,” said Priyam Garg.

“India’s under-19 players get similar attention and fame like the senior cricketers, especially as the World Cup gets closer. It’s the first time we all face such a situation where everyone recognises us, everyone talks about us. It’s the biggest challenge for an 18-year-old kid, who is trying to find a route to reach the top level,” said Priyam Garg.

“Sadly, a player doesn’t get such fame when playing for their state teams. And the problem starts when a player unknowingly expects such fame permanently, which is never going to be the case. I feel those who can face that situation calmly and keep their head down, will find success ahead,” said Priyam Garg.

“After the under-19 level, the cricketers get to the senior state level where they have to match the performance of players who are more mature than them. First-class cricket is another big challenge,” said Priyam Garg.

“Luckily, my family doesn’t understand much about cricket, and my father only told me to grab the opportunity. I remember when it was announced that I will captain the India under-19 team, I was in Bengaluru but back home, we had visitors, media, and well-wishers coming to greet our family. There were journalists coming on a daily basis to interview my family; it’s something none of us had ever experienced,” said Priyam Garg.

Priyam Garg has played 19 games for his franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad and scored 205 runs averaging 14.64.

Priyam Garg’s Aim Was To Represent Senior Indian Team One Day

He lays emphasis on working hard and not deviating from the schedule, not taking their eye off the ultimate goal – which should be playing for the senior national team. Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav will lead the Uttar Pradesh squad in the Ranji Trophy 2022. Karn Sharma has been named as the vice-captain of the squad which included the likes of Shivam Mavi and Priyam Garg.

“I was lucky to have played Ranji Trophy before, so my aim was clear from Day One. I have to represent the senior Indian team one day. Around the time of the Under-19 World Cup, there was also an IPL auction to be held but it never hit my mind because my thought process was clear. Once I returned, it was a similar kind of buzz. The phone kept ringing, well-wishers came calling. During all this, players have to keep their priorities right.”

“For instance, even when I was picked as captain of the under-19 team, I didn’t change my schedule – my gym session, nets session, rest and sleep early. Only in my free time, did I take the phone in my hand. The day a player compromises on this routine, I feel the distraction starts, the chances of making progress go down, following the process is very important. Sleeping on time and getting up early is the key.”

“Like me, these current players will also make temporary friends, social media will attract them, agents will run behind them, the world will run behind you. My only advice to this under-19 team is to think about the long term and make the best decision from that perspective. Under-19 is the age that needs maturity, but we are very immature. So, take help from your family.”

Kuldeep Yadav

“Don’t lose focus, follow the process, never compromise on your ethics. Be prepared to hear applause and brickbats, we live in a country that has billions of people. So don’t expect that everyone is your well-wisher. Now with the IPL auction coming up, everyone will want to be part of the glamorous league. It has fame, money, everything.”

“Once you play for your country, these things will come automatically. Decide an off-day where you want to do things outside cricket. Players can judge that. Under-19 could be a shortcut to playing for India but remember only work ethic, performance, and hard work will help you remain at the top. So keep working hard, even if you don’t find success in this World Cup.”

Priyam Garg played 14 games in his debut IPL season in 2020 and scored one half-century managing 133 runs in 14 games. Captain of the India U19 2020 World Cup, young Priyam Garg led the team to the finals of the tournament. Known to be a gutsy batsman springing up valuable performances in India’s U19 campaign, he was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for 1.9 crores.

James Pattinson Set For A 3rd Stint With Nottinghamshire

James Pattinson, the former Australia pacer is set for a third stint with Nottinghamshire after signing an all-format deal covering the 2022 season.

James Pattinson previously spent parts of the 2017 and 2019 seasons with the county, taking 40 First-Class wickets at 15.52. James Pattinson is a British passport holder but has been registered as an overseas player.

James Pattinson Set For The 3rd Stint With Nottinghamshire

The right-arm fast bowler announced his retirement from international cricket in October 2021, having played 21 Tests and 19 white-ball internationals (15 ODIs, 4 T20Is) for his country. His 81 Test wickets at 26.33 apiece included five in a thrilling Ashes encounter at Trent Bridge in 2013.

James Pattinson’s elder brother Darren Pattinson, who made a one-off Test appearance for England in 2008, won the County Championship title with Nottinghamshire in 2010.

“Trent Bridge felt like home from the moment I first stepped through the gates. To arrive here and be met by a group of guys that made me so welcome from minute dot was pretty special, and I’m looking forward to getting back amongst them again,” said Pattinson in a statement.

“The bowling group did some special things last season. Hopefully I can add something to that and help the club enjoy some success in the coming years,” he added.

James Pattinson first joined the Green and Golds at the start of their success-laden 2017 season, taking 32 wickets at 12.06 with the red ball.

James Pattinson Had Two Stints With Nottinghamshire In 2017 And 2019

On his debut against Leicestershire at Grace Road, he scored a career-best 89 not out, adding 122 for the eighth wicket with Stuart Broad, as well as claiming match figures of 8-84.

“We first recruited James in 2017 because we believed he possessed the two qualities you always look for in an overseas signing: tremendous pedigree and the desire to commit fully to life at the club,” said Head Coach Peter Moores.

The pacer played in ten matches as Notts lifted the Royal London Cup, taking 13 wickets in the tournament and hitting the winning runs against Surrey at Lord’s, then returned for a brief stint in 2019. Australian fast bowler James Pattinson decided to step away from international cricket to focus on his family, continue playing for his state team, Victoria, and help nurture the next generation of fast bowlers.

Australian fast bowler James Pattinson had announced his decision to retire from international cricket in October 2021 after realizing that he won’t be in the reckoning for the Ashes 2021/22 series due to fitness issues. He had been suffering from a knee injury after a number of issues with other injuries that helped to limit his Test appearances.

He claimed 81 Test wickets, 16 ODI scalps, and 3 T20I scalps in his career after making his Test debut in December 2011 alongside Mitchell Starc and David Warner against New Zealand in Brisbane. His last Test was against New Zealand in Sydney in January 2020, while he last played an ODI back in September 2015 against England at Leeds.

His last T20I was way back in 2012. James Pattinson also eventually made his IPL debut in the 2020 season for Mumbai Indians and became a regular member. He has picked up 11 scalps in 10 IPL games averaging 29.09.

BCCI Expected To Earn INR 130 Crores More From Tata Group Who Replaces Vivo As IPL 2022 And 2023 Title Sponsor

BCCI has brought on board Tata Group and according to the deal document, the board is expected to earn around Rs 130 crore more from the deal it had with Vivo which was supposed to run till 2023. The Tata Group has replaced Vivo as the title sponsor for IPL. Vivo has terminated its contract with two editions remaining.

The relationship between BCCI and Vivo had hit rough waters in 2020 when the latter decided to opt out of sponsoring the 2020 IPL season in the UAE. With two new IPL teams coming in and the number of matches going up, the board was slated to earn Rs 996 crore from Vivo over the next two editions.

BCCI Brought Tata Group As IPL’s Title Sponsors

Vivo had offered Rs 484 cr and Rs 512 cr instead of Rs 440 cr for the two remaining seasons. Tata has offered to pay Rs 335 crores per season as a rights fee and Vivo will have to shell out around Rs 450 cr (including assignment fee) for a smooth exit from the contract. That takes BCCI’s earnings for these two seasons to Rs 1124 cr.

The Tata Group also wants to extend the deal to a five-year contract. BCCI is supposed to invite fresh tenders for the title sponsorship for the 2024-28 cycle. However, BCCI will give Tata an option to the right to match once the fresh bidding happens in 2024. This will mean Tata will have to match the highest bid to retain IPL’s title sponsorship and it will ensure BCCI doesn’t miss out on a hefty value.

BCCI, in the past, had a contract with DLF (IPL’s first title sponsors) which had a clause that a contract could be extended beyond five years if both parties negotiated in good faith.

“This is indeed a momentous occasion for the BCCI IPL as the Tata Group is the epitome of global Indian enterprise with an over 100 year old legacy and operations in more than 100 countries across six continents. The BCCI, like the TATA Group, is keen to promote the spirit of cricket across international borders, and the growing popularity of the IPL as a global sporting franchise bears testimony to the BCCI’s efforts.”

“We are truly happy that India’s largest and most trusted business groups have believed in the IPL growth story and together with the Tata Group, we will look to take Indian cricket and the IPL forward to greater heights,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement.

The salt-to-software group is likely to pay ₹300 crores per year, about 60% of what Vivo would have paid as the title sponsor of IPL for the next two seasons, a person aware of the matter said on condition of anonymity.

BCCI And Vivo Had Agreed To Pause The Deal Signed By Vivo For IPL 2020

The Tata group has replaced Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Vivo as the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League 2022 and 2023. Vivo and BCCI had agreed to “pause” the ₹2,190-crore deal signed by Vivo for the 2018-2022 cycle for the 13th edition of IPL in 2020 as both, the handset maker and the board, were caught in a swirl of negative publicity following the India-China military clash in Ladakh’s Galwan Valley in June 2020.

Experts said Vivo has established its name in the Indian market and that after a one-year gap in 2020, when Dream11 picked up the title rights for half the amount the Chinese firm had paid, Vivo’s top bosses also realized the company had overpaid for the rights.

As per the contract, Vivo may assign the rights to a third party but it will have to pay a 5% assignment fee. In 2019, Oppo, which was a Team India sponsor (jersey rights holder) for five years since 2017, transferred the rights to Byju’s in a similar way. Similarly, in 2016, PepsiCo had assigned IPL title rights to Vivo for the remaining two years of its original five-year deal.

KL Rahul, Captain In 3 Match ODI Series Against South Africa Can Take The Team Forward: Saba Karim

KL Rahul, the 29-year-old who has already proved his batting prowess in all three formats, was named the captain of India’s ODI team for the three-match series against South Africa. The ODI captaincy switch from Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma justifiably drew more eyeballs before KL Rahul stepped into the picture. Rohit Sharma was initially set to lead the ODI team in its first overseas assignment of the year but failed to recover from a hamstring injury for which the reins were handed to KL Rahul.

Rohit Sharma was named ODI captain earlier this month replacing Virat Kohli, was to travel to South Africa as vice-captain for the Test series which began on December 26 but a hamstring injury during training ruled him out. He had taken charge as T20I captain against New Zealand last month.

KL Rahul Deserves Captaincy Role For He Is A Player Who Can Take The Team Forward: Saba Karim

Ex-India wicketkeeper and former BCCI selector Saba Karim has also backed KL Rahul for the leadership role, saying the Karnataka lad’s appointment will augur well for the team.

“This is going to be a very good year for Rahul; that is my wish for him. He deserves that because he is a player who can take the team forward. He knows his place is assured in this team; he is a multi-format player,” said Saba Karim.

“The classy knock he played in the Test match; it was extremely enjoyable watching that. I feel he is a player who can adapt his batting to every format, and that is why this responsibility has been given to KL Rahul.”

KL Rahul will look to continue his rich vein of form with the bat, having scored a ton in the Test series opener against South Africa. The right-handed dashing opening batsman scored 123 & 23 in Centurion to help India record their first-ever Test win at the venue.

Reetinder Singh Sodhi: KL Rahul Deserved Captaincy

Reetinder Singh Sodhi also reiterated that KL Rahul’s “multi-format” facet and his performance for Punjab Kings has helped him evolve as a captaincy candidate. KL Rahul has been leading Punjab Kings since 2020 but has failed to inspire the side into the playoffs in his two seasons as captain. KL Rahul won the orange cap scoring 670 runs at an average of 55.83 in IPL 2020 and followed it up by scoring 626 runs averaging 62.6 in 13 IPL 2021 games.

In the 2021 IPL, he was the third-highest run-getter, but unfortunately, failed to inspire his franchise to a title. KL Rahul has been one of the best openers in IPL since 2018 and scored 659, 593, 670, and 626 runs in the past four seasons, respectively.

“He (Rahul) is a big player. As Saba said, he is a multi-format player, and I think he has an insatiable appetite for runs, whichever format he plays – Test cricket, T20s, or ODIs. He excelled for the Punjab Kings in the IPL last season, made brilliant runs,” he said.

“His bat is not stopping in Test cricket. So he definitely deserved captaincy. Test cricket is still left in South Africa, but we hope that the ODI captaincy suits him, and he keeps on scoring runs like this because he can be a legend of the game,” he added.

After India’s dominant performance in the 1st Test at Centurion, the action now shifts to Johannesburg where the Virat Kohli-led unit will look to seal the country’s maiden Test series win in the Rainbow nation. The second Test between India and South Africa begins on January 3 at the Wanderers Stadium.

Shikhar Dhawan Could Have Been Treated Slightly Better In Tests, Say Aakash Chopra

Shikhar Dhawan last appeared in a Test match over three years ago in India’s tour of England in 2018. Former India Test opener Aakash Chopra believes Shikhar Dhawan could have had a longer run in Tests had he been treated better by the team management.

The out-of-favour opening batsman last appeared in a Test match over three years ago in India’s tour of England in 2018. Since then the left-handed batter has not been considered in the longer format of the game. He managed 162 runs at an underwhelming average of 20.25 in the four Tests he played against England in the 2018 tour.

Aakash Chopra Feels Shikhar Dhawan Could Have Been Treated Slightly Better

Shikhar Dhawan has so far played 34 Tests and scored 2,315 runs with seven centuries under his belt at an average of 40.61. Soon after the 2018 England tour, the left-handed southpaw was ditched for younger guys like KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, and Shubman Gill.

“Test career, in my opinion, was the England tour where, to be very honest, it was not right. He could have been treated slightly better. He was played in the first match, was not played in the second, played the third, and then they dropped him.”

“It just did not go right. He could have played continuous matches; they were changing repeatedly, and that does not go down well. Personally, that’s my issue,” said the former India cricketer.

Shikhar Dhawan was not picked for the Lord’s Test after he was dismissed on 39 in both the innings at Edgbaston.  KL Rahul, who came to bat at No. 3 in the series opener then, was promoted to open with Murali Vijay at Lord’s and Cheteshwar Pujara was included in the playing XI.

Shikhar Dhawan Whose Form Deteriorated Was Handed A Lifeline After Being Included In 18 Member Squad For South Africa ODIs

Shikhar Dhawan last appeared in a limited-overs game for India in July, in the tour of Sri Lanka. Despite an impressive performance in the first leg of IPL 2021, a poor return in both the formats in the Sri Lanka tour saw him miss his place for the T20 World Cup.

His form deteriorated further in the second leg of the IPL 2021, in the UAE, and then in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy as well where he scored just 56 runs in five innings at 11.20 which included a duck as well. Shikhar Dhawan though has been handed a lifeline with the selectors adding him to the 18-member squad for the South Africa series.

Shikhar Dhawan will have to play some substantial knocks against the Proteas to hold on to his spot as he will fight for the opening spot with KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Ishan Kishan in the fray.

Shikhar Dhawan had a good outing in IPL 2021 scoring 587 runs in 16 games averaging 39.13 finishing as 4th highest run-scorer after Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, and KL Rahul. In IPL 2020 too, he finished as second-highest run-scorer after KL Rahul with 618 runs in 17 games averaging 44.14.

Shikhar Dhawan averages a high 45.56 amassing 6105 runs in 145 ODIs with 17 tons. He averaged 56.33 and 64 in the last two ODI series against England at home and in Sri Lanka.

Full Squad For South Africa ODIs: KL Rahul (Capt), Shikhar Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaekwad, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Y Chahal, R Ashwin, W Sundar, J Bumrah (VC), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Prasidh Krishna, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj.

Arjun Tendulkar Included In Mumbai Ranji Trophy Squad Keeping Future In Mind: Salil Ankola

Salil Ankola, the Mumbai Cricket Association chief of selector has said the inclusion of Arjun Tendulkar among others in the Ranji squad announced on Wednesday has been done keeping the future in mind.

Arjun Tendulkar, son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, is part of the 20-member squad, led by Prithvi Shaw, for Mumbai’s first two Ranji matches against Maharashtra and Delhi.

Salil Ankola : Arjun Tendulkar Has Been Bowling Well

Salil Ankola said Arjun Tendulkar has been bowling well in the games he has played after recovering from an injury. Arjun Tendulkar had played just two games and had returned figures of 1/34 and 1/33 in those two outings. He also had received an IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians but didn’t play even a single game. Arjun Tendulkar was bought at his base price of Rs 20 lakh by IPL 2020 champions Mumbai Indians in the IPL Auction 2021 in Chennai.

“Arjun (Tendulkar) has been bowling well, unfortunately, he was injured in between but he did well in whatever games he played thereafter. We have picked a team looking at the future of Mumbai cricket,” Salil Ankola said.

He added, “Unfortunately Tushar Deshpande, our seamer, is injured but it’s a promising team. It’s a mixed team where we have picked players from under-19 and also who have been part of the Mumbai team for a few years.”

The Ranji Trophy gets underway from January 13. Salil Ankola said Arjun Tendulkar “has been bowling well” after recovering from an unfortunate injury and the team has been picked “looking at the future of Mumbai cricket.” Mumbai will begin their campaign against Maharashtra on January 13 and both their matches against Maharashtra and Delhi are in Kolkata as this year the tournament is being played in neutral venues.

Salil Ankola: Players From Under 19 Have Performed For Senior Team As Well

Salil Ankola said the team is a good mixture of young and senior players and is hopeful of a good season. Mumbai finished third in their pool during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and finished last in Group B of Vijay Hazare Trophy this season.

Chief selector Salil Ankola backed Prithvi Shaw for the leadership role. The 22-year old led Mumbai to win the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season as he scored 827 runs with an average of 165.40 and strike rate of 138.29.

“There are a few young players like Prince Badiani, who did well in under 19 for us. We wanted to promote them and see how they do on the big stage. What we have seen is the players coming from under 19 have performed for the senior men team too. We are hopeful that the team will do well going ahead,” Salil Ankola said.

Arjun Tendulkar, who has played two T20s for the senior Mumbai team, is yet to feature in the Ranji Trophy, which did not take place last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. Mumbai will be led by India opener Prithvi Shaw. The team, however, will miss important players like pacer Tushar Deshpande – out with an injury and Suryakumar Yadav – likely to be included in India’s ODI squad for South Africa tour.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Shivam Dube are other notable names in the Mumbai squad. The Mumbai team had a disastrous white ball tourney as the team wasn’t able to qualify in Syed Mushtaq Ali and stood last in Group B of Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs).

Squad: Prithvi Shaw (Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aakarshit Gomel, Arman Jaffer, Sarfaraz Khan, Sachin Yadav, Aditya Tare (W.K.), Hardik Tamore (W.K.), Shivam Dube, Aman Khan, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Prashant Solanki, Shashank Attarde, Dhaval Kulkarni, Mohit Awasthi, Prince Badiani, Siddharth Raut, Roystan Dias, Arjun Tendulkar.
