Murali Kartik Impressed With Gujarat Titans And Lucknow Super Giants In IPL 2022

Murali Kartik, India’s former spinner is impressed with the way Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 debutants; Gujarat Titans, and Lucknow Super Giants have handled the pressure, which has seen them make it all the way to the play-off stages of the IPL 2022 season.  Gujarat and Rajasthan will meet in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2022 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday, 24 May.

While Hardik Pandya-led GT ended the league stage as table-toppers, Sanju Samson guided RR to the second position. Murali Kartik Praises Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasthan Royals For Doing Well At IPL 2022 Mega Auctions

Former cricketer and commentator Murali Kartik has praised Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasthan Royals for turning around the league with their astounding performances and leadership this year.

“They are the new boys, but the players and people involved have been present for a long time. They have handled the post before. The auction plays a very important role and Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals did very well there,” Kartik said on a live chatroom session CricChat Season 2 on ShareChat Audio Chatrooms powered by Parimatch.

The 45-year-old dwelled further on how these teams have turned IPL 2022 around with their astounding performances and leadership this year. He called out RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, RR skipper Sanju Samson, and GT skipper Hardik Pandya for their performance this season.

“At the end of the day, the decisions taken on the auction day are the most important for team selection.”

He mentioned when talking about Mumbai Indians’ and Chennai Super Kings’ struggle this season, indicating weak performance on the auction day by the team’s management.

“For example, Bumrah doesn’t have consistent support in bowling. Super King’s bowlers have performed well but overall, it’s been difficult for them.”

The high-flying Gujarat Titans, the only team to reach 20 points in the league stage of Indian Premier League 2022, will face Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 1 to kickstart the IPL 2022 playoffs. After all the action for more than a month in four stadiums across Maharashtra, the IPL playoffs will now shift to Eden Gardens in Kolkata where the Qualifier 1 will take place on Tuesday.

Murali Kartik: One Can’t Keep Players Like Virat Kohli Out Of T20 World Cup Because They Earned The Right To Be There

Murali Kartik showed appreciation for RCB’s ex-captain, Virat Kohli, by saying that he is one of those players who is “always ready when the bell rings.” Talking about his recent form, Murali Kartik said he believes Virat Kohli is a champion player who can still come around to save the day when required.

“You can’t keep such players out of the squad for tournaments like the T20 World Cup because they have earned the right to be there for what they are and what they can do at the end moment.”

Talking about IPL, he explained that the competition in the cash-rich league has only become fierce over the years and predicts an upward trend in the upcoming years. He also spoke about his IPL tenure when he played for four teams — Kolkata Knight Riders, Pune Warriors, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Kings XI Punjab.

When the topic of India’s lagging performance at the T20 World Cup, despite the country creating arguably the toughest T20 League in the world came up, Murali Kartik said, “Yes, when we last won the World Cup in 2007, we hadn’t really embraced the format and were viewing it reluctantly.”

“Then IPL changed a lot in terms of our mentality and skill level, which has made a huge difference, but the answer to this has to be given on many different levels. Superficially speaking, my sympathy is with the team as some things have gone against us, costing us the entire tournament,” he signed off.

Following his poor run of form in IPL 2022 where he has scored 236 runs in 13 innings at 19.67, there have been speculations that Virat Kohli may not make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad. While that is a tall claim to make considering his records, ex-India cricketer Murali Kartik has opined.

As per Murali Kartik, Virat Kohli has earned his right to be in the 2022 T20I WC squad. Murali Kartik also reckoned the RCB batter would fire when the team needs him the most. Recently, Virat Kohli revealed his future goals as a cricketer. The ex-India captain said that he wants to win India the Asia Cup and the 2022 T20I World Cup.

“I am his biggest nightmare. We both were messaging each other on Instagram throughout the entire auction process and the build-up to the auction. ‘Oh, you’re going to go unsold.

“No one is going to buy you.’ All these rubbish talks with each other. But we both wanted to be back in CSK and I know he was happy for me, I was happy for him that we are going to be back again,” Bravo told CSK, a video of which was shared by the franchise’s Twitter handle.

He further revealed that Ambati Rayudu, who played an instrumental part in CSK winning the IPL title in 2018, did not want to represent any other franchise barring the Yellow Army.

“Amba did not want to play for another franchise. He irritates me too much now so I am going to stay away from him. We’re going to fight again as normal this season. As long as we keep fighting and keep winning, that’s important,” mentioned Bravo.

Yash Dhull’s Father Revealed Reason For Delhi Capitals Going After The 2022 Under-19 World Cup Winning Skipper

Yash Dhull, Under-19 World Cup-winning skipper’s father revealed why Delhi Capitals went after the teenager and got him at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Yash Dhull was roped in by the IPL 2020 finalists for INR 50 Lakh. After leading India to their 5th U-19 title, the youngster scored twin centuries on his Ranji Trophy debut.

It has been a dream month for India’s U-19 World Cup-winning captain, whose stocks have risen substantially since he led the Men in Blue to their record fifth title in the youth tournament. Yash Dhull Was Already Associated With Delhi Capitals Academy So It Wasn’t Unexpected That He Would Be Picked By Delhi Capitals At IPL 2022 Auctions: Father

In the 2022 ICC U19 World Cup, Yash Dhull amassed 229 from four matches at an average of 76.33, he scored a match-winning 110 against Australia U19 in the semi-final.
However, it wasn’t a surprise for Yash Dhull and his family that the Delhi Capitals bid for him and eventually signed him as his father expected this to happen.
Vijay Dhull, father of the 19-year old said that Yash Dhull has been associated with the Delhi franchise for the last 7 years as part of their Academy in Dwarka so the result at the auction was an expected one.

“When you register for the auctions and as a player when you are going under the hammer, it is not your choice, and beyond your control as to which side would pick you.
“But with Yash already being associated with Delhi Capitals Academy at Bal Bhavan, Dwarka for a long time now, where he had practiced for the last seven-eight years, we had already expected that he would most likely be picked by Delhi Capitals,” said Yash Dhull’s father.
In the high-bidding war of the cash-rich league, the young batter was picked by Delhi Capitals (DC) for Rs. 50 Lakhs. Yash Dhull, who had registered in the IPL 2022 for a base price of Rs 20 Lakhs, gathered sound interest from Punjab Kings (PBKS) as well but was finally absorbed by his home side.

Vijay Dhull: Yash Dhull Was Happy About Being Picked By Delhi Capitals

Vijay Dhull also admitted that playing for your state-based franchise in the IPL helps the youngsters play with more motivation as they feel comfortable in the environment.
“Also, I feel that if the local boys get to play and represent their state-based franchise in the IPL, it motivates them immensely, and also as rookies they are in a comparatively comfortable homely fabric.
“Even if you see the other young boys, they are taken by their local teams only. Yash was happy about being picked by DC,” Vijay Dhull further said.
Shedding light on the importance of the cash-rich league for players at such a young age, Vijay Dhull said that the tournament will help them mature a little more when they share the dressing room with some of the best cricketers from all over the world.

Since Mumbai Indians retained 4 players- Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard so they came in the auction with a purse of 48 Crores.

I knew MI would go for me. That wasn’t the worrying bit. The worrying part was the rising price because MI needed to save on money to build the rest of the team. It wasn’t just about me. For a minute there, I must admit, my heart skipped a beat,” Ishan Kishan said.

He said that he enjoyed his time with the franchise. He made his IPl debut for Gujarat Lions in 2016 but in the 2018 mega auction, Mumbai Indians bought him for 6.2 Crores and since then he has become an integral part of the franchise.

“There’s a reason why I wanted to come back to MI. They know me, they understand my game and I know my franchise and how it works. Because I’ve been part of this family, I was sure I didn’t want to go anywhere else. I’ve been here four years and the bonding has been amazing.

“We’ve won two trophies, stood for each other and with each other, they know my cricket and I know they will take care of me. So, I didn’t want to go anywhere else,” Kishan added.

In four seasons, Ishan Kishan played 45 matches for MI and scored 1133 runs with an average of 31.47 and a strike rate of 138.50 which included 8 fifties.

Harbhajan Singh Picks His Two Captains For An IPL All-Star Game

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has picked Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni as his two all-time favourite IPL captains. Harbhajan played under both of them in IPL.

Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are the two most successful franchises in the 15 years history of IPL. While Rohit Sharma led Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL titles, MS Dhoni-led the yellow army to 4 trophies.

On Monday Mumbai Indians posted a question, “If IPL had an All-Star game, what would be the two teams & who would be the two captains?”

Notable that Sunrisers Hyderabad made wholesale changes in their set-up in the last year or so. First, they sacked David Warner from captaincy in the midway of the season, and also they didn’t retain him ahead of the auction.

Ahead of the auction, they retained 3 players in form of Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad.

At the auction, SRH invested heavy money in Nicholas Pooran (10.75 Crores), Washington Sundar (8.75 Crores), Rahul Tripathi (8.5 Crores), Romario Shephard (7.75 Crores), Abhishek Sharma (6.5 Crores).

The team also bought some old players back as the likes of T Natarajan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Priyam Garg returned back to the orange army.  Sunrisers Hyderabad won the IPL title only once when they beat RCB in the final in the 2016 edition. Ishan Kishan Will Learn With Experience And Maturity: Deep Dasgupta

Ishan Kishan, the left-handed opener struggled on his way to 35 before falling to Roston Chase in the T20I series opener versus West Indies. However, Deep Dasgupta believes he will “learn with experience”.

Debutant spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s two-wicket haul was backed up by quality knocks by Rohit Sharma (40) and Suryakumar Yadav (34*) as India defeated West Indies in the T20I series opener on Wednesday. While Rohit Sharma was his usual elegant self at the top, Ishan Kishan looked scratchy.

Ishan Kishan Registers Slow Knock As He Wasn’t Finding The Middle Of The Bat: Deep Dasgupta

Ishan Kishan, who was bought for a staggering INR 15.25 crore by Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction last Saturday, registered the slowest knock by an Indian in T20 Internationals while facing at least 40 deliveries. Despite the young batter’s lacklustre batting show on the Eden Gardens strip, former India wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta feels Ishan Kishan endured “one of those days” when he wasn’t able to get going.

“Kishan just had one of those days with the bat. He was trying, it was not like he was not trying. Either the shots were finding the fielders or he was not finding the middle of the bat.

“Sometimes what happens is that when you’re trying too hard, you don’t find the middle of the bat. That, I think he will learn with experience and maturity. It is important how he manages such days.”

“So, not the usual Ishan Kishan innings, but it’s alright,” said Dasgupta said on his YouTube channel.

Ishan Kishan has played 6 T20Is for India so far and has opened in 4 of them. However, the aggressive wicketkeeper batter has also batted at No. 3 and No. 6, managing 148 runs in 6 innings which includes a fifty. The left-handed opener struggled on his way to 35 before falling to Roston Chase in the T20I series opener versus West Indies.

Rohit Sharma’s Innings Was Sublime And KL Rahul Should Ideally Open The Innings: Deep Dasgupta

Skipper Rohit Sharma was unperturbed by his opening partner’s struggles. He was in decent flow at the other end, scoring a quick-fire 40 off 19 deliveries to set up the run chase. Deep Dasgupta heaped praise on Rohit Sharma and also picked his opening partner in Indian colours. He feels KL Rahul should join Rohit Sharma at the top in the T20 format instead of playing in the middle-order.

“Rohit’s innings was sublime. He never looks out of form. Even if he scores 10, 20, or 30, he always looks in-form. The 55 runs in the first 5 overs helped a lot in chasing down the score.”

KL Rahul And Rohit Sharma (Image Credit: Twitter)
KL Rahul And Rohit Sharma (Image Credit: Twitter)

“Don’t think KL Rahul is an option for the middle order in T20s. KL Rahul is such a player, who can effortlessly play with a strike rate in excess of 140. When fit and available, he should partner Rohit Sharma at the top.

“But the change in the mindset, that’s important. KL Rahul is as good as anyone in world cricket. Ideally, he should open the innings,” he further elaborated.

Captain Rohit Sharma, who won the toss and opted to field in the 1st T20I on Wednesday, confirmed that Ishan Kishan and he will open the batting in the absence of vice-captain KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the series due to a hamstring niggle.

India also have Chennai Super Kings star Ruturaj Gaikwad for the role but the team management went ahead with Ishan Kishan for the opening role.

The second T20I is scheduled for Friday, with all the games to be played at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. The only concern for India has been Virat Kohli’s form and he would definitely want a bigger knock than the scores of 8, 18, 0, and 17 so far in the assignment.

Harshal Patel Deserves Every Penny That He’s Earned At The Auction – Sunil Gavaskar

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has showered praises on Harshal Patel as he bowled another good spell to restrict power hitters of the West Indies in the death overs in the first match of the T20I series. Making his debut against New Zealand last year, he picked 6 wickets in 3 T20I matches.

Last week Royal Challengers Bangalore got him a price of 10.75 Crores Rs at the IPL mega auction. Notable he was the Purple Cap winner in the last season when he claimed 32 wickets in 15 matches with an economy of 8.14. It was the record for any Indian bowler in a single IPL season.

Gavaskar lauded the 31-year old pacer as he said he deserves every penny he’s earned. Gavaskar felt that Harshal reinvented himself with age as he developed multiple variations in his bowling. He pointed out that he got a good slower ball and bowls a pinpoint yorker. With so many variations, batters would want to avoid him, opined Sunil Gavaskar.

Look he deserves every penny, every rupee that he’s earned at the auction. He put in a fabulous performance last year. And the best part about Harshal Patel is how he has reinvented himself. Earlier, he was a bowler batters were looking to face because he hardly had any change of pace. He was being taken for a lot of runs.

“He is learning from it, he has improved from that. Now, he is the bowler that batters do not want to face because they don’t know what he is going to bowl,” Gavaskar spoke to Star Sports.

Harshal Patel made his IPL debut in 2012 and so far picked 78 wickets in 63 matches with an economy of 8.58.

“He has got a very good yorker. He has got a slower bouncer. He has got a delivery that skids along quite nicely so he has got the works and he knows when to use it because of the experience he has had playing in the IPL for the last few years. He has only got better every year,” added Gavaskar.

While People Only Talk About The Present, We Thought About The Future – Gautam Gambhir Reveals His Strategy For The Mega IPL Auction

Lucknow Super Giants mentor Gautam Gambhir has opened up on his strategy for the mega auction as he said that keeping an eye on the future he kept raising the bid for the youngsters like Avesh Khan who can serve the franchise for a long time. The newly inducted franchise got Avesh Khan at a price of Rs. 10 crores. The 25-year old pacer became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of the IPL auction.

“Avesh is someone we thought we could build the franchise with, alongside Ravi Bishnoi”- Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir said that the team would be built around young players like Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi to keep an eye on the future. He also revealed that the team wanted to get India‘s new pace sensation Prasidh Krishna but couldn’t go for him beyond 9.5 Crores.

“We did go for Prasidh Krishna till INR 9.5 crore. He was always in the scheme of things. But we couldn’t have got any further. When we couldn’t get Prasidh, Avesh was the last in that rank who could bowl quick, so we had to go harder for him,” Gambhir spoke to Xtra Time.

In the IPL 2021, he was the second leading wicket-taker in the tournament as he picked 24 wickets with an economy of 7.37.

“I know some people say that we overpaid certain players but in Avesh’s case, he’s young and can bowl quick. He’s someone you can build the Indian bowling with, and build the bowling department for the future. While people only talk about the present, we thought about the future as well. How many people who are that young can bowl 145 and can also bowl at different stages of the game?” he added.

Gambhir also added that Lucknow has a terrific bowling combination of express pace bowlers and spinners.

Imagine if Holder and Wood bowl alongside him and you put in Stoinis, it would give you a good balance. If I was captain, it would’ve made me very happy,” said Gambhir.

Players Don’t Push Themselves In International Cricket When IPL Is Round The Corner, Claims Sunil Gavaskar

Former India captain and popular commentator Sunil Gavaskar has made a sensational claim that the players involved in IPL might not try as hard in international cricket which might rule them out from the cash riched league.

Notable that IPL mega auction was held on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru and this time there were 10 teams involved in the event so the money involved has been bigger than ever.

“The auction is a life-changing one for all the players”- Sunil Gavaskar

Gavaskar said that it’s a life-changing event for the players as it gives them financial security that players from the past didn’t have in the past but he speculated that this might also stop them to push hard for their country in

The auction is a life-changing one for all the players as it opens doors to a secure future for them and their families. That can also lead to some to not try as hard when playing for their country, especially when the IPL is round the corner, so to speak,” Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for the Times of India.

“This is to ensure that there is no injury that will prevent them from being fit for the IPL and missing out on the security that an IPL contract guarantees. So the diving and sliding, or the hard throws from the deep, are not attempted for fear of doing some damage that will mean withdrawal from the IPL,” he further added.

Ishan Kishan (Image Credit: BCCI)
Ishan Kishan- most expensive player in the mega auction 2022 (Image Credit: BCCI)

In the mega auction, there was a total of 204 players sold in the two-day event, and 550 crores Rs. have been spent on them. Ishan Kishan was the most expensive player in the auction as his former franchise Mumbai Indians got him for 15.25 Crores.

“For those who were unlucky, it’s an opportunity to prove that it was a mistake not to pick them and with more matches and teams in the IPL, there is always an opportunity to be a replacement player,” said Gavaskar.

However, Gavaskar further added that the huge money would put pressure on players and it’s not easy to live up to the expectations of the franchises.

“The followers of each franchise will be looking for early signs of whether the money that they forked out is going to be worth it. That in itself will create pressure of expectations from the players and that could be a telling factor in these matches,” Gavaskar concluded.
