Can Manchester City Defend Their League Title This Season? – Analysis

In a very long amount of time, Manchester city is having an inactive window in the transfers this season. They did make have any marquee transfer this season yet. The only transfer they made is the former English International goalkeeper Scott Carson from Derby County and that is also a free transfer.

Manchester city are linked with the English International forward Harry Kane from last season and it seems like they will sign the English captain for a fee believed to be around £160 million. Kane who currently plays for Tottenham Hotspur wants to play Champions League football which his current side cannot offer him this season.

Can Manchester City Defend Their League Title This Season? – Analysis

The defending Premier League Champions have also let their key forward Sergio Aguero go for free who joined Barcelona this season. Aguero played in the blue half of Manchester for over a decade. They seriously need a replacement for the Argentinian footballer.

Another name that is linked with the blue half of Manchester is Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish. The 25 year old English International is believed to be linked with the defending Premier League Champions with his fee believed to be around £150m.

Pep Guardiola’s side is already a championship contender with whatever players they have in their squad. But if they could sign both Harry Kane and Jack Grealish they would be nearly unstoppable and they would be the biggest contender for the 2021-22 English Premier League.

Among the other teams, Manchester United look to be more active than the other clubs with two big names already signed for the red side of Manchester. They have finalized Jaden Sancho for a fee believed to be £73m. Rafael Varane from Real Madrid is also closing in on a £42m switch to Manchester United. The Red Devils are a serious contender this year.

Liverpool have made only one signing so far; Ibrahima Konate for £36m from RB Leipzig. After their key midfielder Gini Wijnaldum left for PSG they could not replace him either. It is difficult to call Liverpool a contender to win the league this year.

Chelsea have not made any key signings yet either. But the blue half of London are keen on landing several players, Erling Haaland is believed to be their main target for this season.

Chelsea Triumph Their Second UEFA Champions League

Europe is all blue as Chelsea defeated Manchester City to win the UEFA Champions League 2020-21. This was their second Champions League win.

Manchester City entered the game as the favorites of the match with an excellent recent winning record. They are of course the Premier League 2020-21 champions. No doubt everyone was counting them as the favorites. But Chelsea did it like a boss, they were never the underdog. They won the game and they clearly deserved it.

Chelsea Triumph Their Second UEFA Champions League

Chelsea made the first and only breakthrough of this game in the 42nd minute. The German international Kai Havertz scored the first goal for the blue side. The twenty one year struggled throughout the season for Chelsea.

It was very difficult for him to carry the burden of £71 million transfer kitty on his back. But he finally scored the most vital goal of his career and it was enough to justify the price tag, as of now. Of course he played the best football of his career so far, and this could seriously be the most memorable one.

Christian Pulisic could seal the deal for Chelsea earlier, during the 72nd minute of the game he got the Manchester City defence exposed and Ederson made a tremendous save to keep his side in the game and deny the cushion for Chelsea.

N’Golo Kante was arguably the best man on the pitch. The French international once again proved why he is one of the best in the world.

There were multiple injuries in the game as both sides suffered from the unwanted injuries. Thiago Silva was the first man who had to go off the with an injury during the 37th minute of the game. In the second half it was Kevin De Bryune of Manchester City who had to be sacrificed because of another unwanted injury.

Chelsea had been excellent throughout the game. After the arrival of Thomas Tuchel to the blue side of London, they have been excellent. Manchester City on the other hand started quite competitive but could not keep the intensity going with the departure of De Bryune.

Manchester City Wins Premier League; What Happen To The Other Big Teams?

Liverpool finished third with 69 points, just five points behind Manchester United. With a season full of injuries, it seemed like very difficult for the Reds to finish top 4 this season. But Jurgen Klopp is considered one of the best football managers in the world, and this is why he is one of the best.

Chelsea finished fourth in the league, two points behind Liverpool. Even though they lost their final match against Aston Villa, they have been gifted the fourth position by Leicester City who bottled their Champions League hope this year again. Leicester City’s League finish was totally similar to their last year. They bottled it, in the same manner, this year.

West Ham United was one of the ultimate underdogs of this year who finished sixth. The other two big teams were Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsenal, who finished 7th and 8th respectively. Arsenal was the only team besides Liverpool Who won all their last five league matches. It looks like Arsenal is getting their Glory days back slowly.

Another underdog of the season has to be Leeds United who finished ninth and played extremely well in this campaign. Everton and Aston Villa started the campaign very well, but had to remain happy with 10th and 11th positions only.

West Bromwich Albion, Fulham and Sheffield United got relegated from this year’s Premier League. Their void will be filled by Norwich city, Watford and the winner of the playoff final from next week. We are hoping to have another blast next season. With full of crowds the next season football will feel even more special.

Sergio Aguero To Leave Manchester City; 4 Potential Destinations

The 32-year-old has scored a total of two hundred and fifty-six goals for the blue half of Manchester, which is a huge number. And who can forget his amazing league-winning goal against Queen’s Park Rangers at his first Premier League season?

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola talked exclusively to ESPN Brazil where he compared Aguero with the likes of Maradona and Messi;

“Maradona conquered Italy, Messi did it in Spain, and Aguero has done it in England, his numbers speak for themselves,” Pep said. “When you have that internal fire, play with that anger, his incredible talent comes out, he can win games on his own.”

But what would be the destination for Aguero after he leaves Manchester City? Some big clubs have already come into the competition to secure the signature of the Argentinian.

Among them, Manchester City’s rival club Liverpool is rumored to be interested. With Roberto Firmino being out of form for quite a while and not enough replacement in the squad, Jurgen Klopp may try to get Aguero to his side.

Speaking of Liverpool, another rival of Manchester City is rumored to be in the race, and that is Chelsea. Chelsea’s new boss Thomas Tuchel is believed to be a great admirer of the 32-year-old and he may try to get him on his side.

The Spanish giants Barcelona are in the market for a new striker and it is rumored that they might move for Aguero as well.

And Aguero’s former club Atletico Madrid can definitely be a potential destination for the Argentinian as well. Atletico Madrid believes in taking back their older talents and maybe a potential move for Aguero is on the card.

No matter where he goes, he will always be remembered more as a Manchester City legend and we believe he will rock the football world again after moving to a new club.

He told City’s official website “What City have achieved in the last two years has been amazing and I’m looking forward to being part of such a talented squad, it’s not just the titles they have won, but the way they have managed it, playing attacking football at all times. It’s a style that excites me, as do the club’s ambitions.

I can’t wait to start working with Pep Guardiola and my new team-mates and hopefully we can achieve great things together.”

Man City beats Everton 3-1, top Premier League

Manchester, Dec 15: Brazil forward Gabriel Jesus scored twice to help Manchester City defeat Everton 3-1 on Saturday and get the team back on top of the English Premier League.

Defending champion Manchester City secured the home win of the match-day 17 to erase the memory of its first loss this season; 2-0 against Chelsea in the previous round.

Manchester City dominated the beginning of the match held at Etihad stadium, but its players squandered several scoring chances, reports Efe news.

Jesus opened the scoring for Manchester City after 22 minutes into the match with an accurate short-range shot inside the penalty area.

Everton fought to come from behind, but Jesus struck again with a second goal just five minutes into the second half off a header after his teammate Leroy Sane sent a cross from the left side.

Undaunted, Everton tried a comeback as forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin narrowed City’s lead 15 minutes later off a header on a cross sent from the left side.

It was left to Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling to put the game out of reach as he scored the third goal for the Citizens in the 69th minute, putting a header from a cross shot in on the left side to seal the 3-1 win.

After this victory, Man City provisionally leads the Premier League standings with 44 points, two points ahead of second-placed Liverpool, which will host Manchester United Sunday.

Sane leads Man City to win over Hoffenheim

Manchester, Dec 13: Manchester City squandered numerous scoring chances in their final Champions League group stage match but managed to notch a 2-1 win over Bundesliga club 1899 Hoffenheim thanks to a brace by Leroy Sane.

City got off to an inauspicious start at Etihad Stadium here on Wednesday night when Aymeric Laporte fouled Benjamin Hubner in the area and Andrej Kramaric converted from the penalty spot to put the visitors ahead 1-0 in the 16th minute, reports Efe.

The English Premier League side, who only needed a tie to ensure themselves of first place in Group F, still had loads of time to get the equalizer but made their home fans restless with a series of missed chances.

Among the bullets dodged by Hoffenheim, Gabriel Jesus hit the woodwork with a header off a corner kick, John Stones headed a ball from the goal area directly at net minder Oliver Baumann and yet another header by Nicolas Otamendi clanked off the crossbar.

But frustration turned to joy in Manchester when Sane sent a curving free kick over a wall of defenders and past a diving Baumann in first-half injury time.

Hoffenheim, who needed a win and a Shakhtar Donetsk loss on Wednesday night to finish third in the group and earn a Europa League berth, tried to go on the attack at the start of the second half.

But that only left holes in their defence that City and their speedy attackers tried to exploit.

Although Sane botched a three-on-one opportunity against Baumann with an extra pass to Bernardo Silva, exasperating Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola in the process, he made up for that error in the 61st minute when he received a pass from Raheem Sterling, maneuvered around Baumann and slotted the ball home from just outside the goal area.

With the win, Manchester City finished group-stage play with a record of four wins, one draw and one loss (13 points) and will next play in the Champions League when the round-of-16 action kicks off in February.

Hoffenheim’s European campaign is over for this season after they finished last in the group with a record of 0-3-3 (three points).

Man City in knockout stage, play 2-2 draw with Lyon

Lyon (France), Nov 28: Manchester City needed a goal from Sergio Agüero in the final 10 minutes to secure a 2-2 draw with Olympique Lyon and punch their ticket for the Champions League knockout stage.

With one match to go in the group stage, City are atop Group F with 10 points, followed by Lyon (7), Shakhtar Donetsk (5) and Hoffenheim (3), reports Efe news.

The reigning Premier League champions did not have an easy time against Lyon on Tuesday, the only team to have defeated the Cityzens in any competition this season.

Indeed, the hosts could have led 3-0 at the half but for their dismaying inability to finish.

An unmarked Memphis Depay missed an empty net from close range in the 13th minute before Maxwel Cornet flubbed a great chance.

Cornet fell short again in the final two minutes before the break, hitting the cross-bar.

Lyon remained on the front foot in the second half and Cornet made up for his earlier failures by putting the hosts up 1-0 in the 54th minute with a magnificent strike.

Roused to action, City pressed forward and it took a good save by Lyon keeper Anthony Lopes to deny Agüero from point-blank range, though he could do nothing to stop Aymeric Laporte from levelling the contest on a set piece in the 64th minute.

Lopes had to be sharp moments later to stop Leroy Sane from giving Man City the lead and his heroics inspired Lyon, who pulled ahead 2-1 in the 80th minute on Cornet’s second of the night.

The euphoria was short-lived, however, as Agüero headed in a corner kick two minutes later to secure the point for Manchester City.

Man City routs West Ham 4-0, remain in Premier League’s top spot

London, Nov 25: Defending champion Manchester City thrashed host West Ham United 3-0 at London Stadium to stay undefeated in the Premier League and hold on to the first place.

Midfielder David Silva, a former Spanish international, gave the Citizens an early 1-0 lead just 11 minutes into the game on Saturday night, reports Efe news.

Leroy Sane then assisted on a goal by Raheem Sterling in the 19th minute before the English winger returned the favour and set up a score by the German forward in the 34th minute as Manchester City stretched its lead to 3-0.

Manchester City remains in first place after the win with 35 points, while West Ham is in 13th place with 12 points.

Second-placed Liverpool, meanwhile, kept the pressure on the Sky Blues with a hard-fought 3-0 away win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Elsewhere in English football, Everton topped Cardiff City 1-0 at Goodison Park, while Brighton & Hove Albion played to a 1-1 draw with 10-man Leicester City at Amex Stadium.
