Since retiring, Inzamam-ul-Haq has had coaching stints with Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Peshawar Zalmi welcomed him to their franchise with the following tweet: “Legend Inzamam Ul Haq joins Peshawar Zalmi as Mentor/Batting Consultant for remaining matches of PSL 6. Welcome to the Zalmi family.”

Top Five Highest Partnerships In The ICC T20 World Cup 2009

Under the captaincy of Younis Khan, Pakistan lifted the T20 World Cup 2009 trophy after defeating Sri Lanka in the grand-finale. The Green Army was dominant in all the departments. In the final of that tournament, they halted Sri Lanka to set up huge targets as the Islanders were restricted to 138/6 in 20 overs. In reply, the all-rounder Shahid Afridi scored match-winning runs and guided the team to lift the ICC trophy.

India were the defending champions but they even failed to get qualify for the knock-out rounds in the second edition of the T20 World Cup.

During the tournament, batsmen and bowlers build several records. And on that note, in this article, we have mentioned the players who were the highest scorer in the T20 World Cup 2009.

West Indies started their ICC T20 World Cup 2009 campaign by winning against Australia. Ricky Ponting-led Australia had set a fighting target of 170 runs but it felt short in front of the explosive batsman Chris Gayle.

The Windies opening batsmen Chris Gayle and Andre Fletcher led the team to chase down the target. The duo set up 133 runs partnership which became the highest partnership of this particular tournament. Gayle smashed Australia’s bowling line up with the likes of Mitchell Jonson, Shane Watson, Nathan Bracken and Bret Lee. He amassed 88 runs off 50 balls, striking six gigantic sixes and six boundaries, before losing the wicket to Bret Lee. His opening partner Fletcher scored 53 runs off 32 balls and hit seven fours and one six.

In the end, Ramnaresh Sarwan scored match-winning runs to guide the team to victory by seven wickets.

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya: 124 runs against West Indies

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya played the quick-firing innings against West Indies which led Sri Lanka to register the third-highest total by a team in the ICC T20 World Cup 2019.

Sri Lanka was asked to bat first as they lost the toss. The openers Dilshan and Jayasuriya thrashed the Caribbean bowlers and registered 124 runs partnership before the end of that partnership. Dilshan scored 74 off 47 balls, striking 11 fours and a six while Jayasuriya scored 81 off 47 balls, striking 10 boundaries and three sixes. Sri Lanka set up the target of 193 runs with the help of their partnership.

Finally, the West Indies faced defeat as they lost the game by 15 runs.

This was the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2009 where the host England faced a shocking defeat against the Netherlands though Ravi Bopara and John Wright set the third-highest partnership of the tournament.

Put in to bat, England got off to a great start with Ravi Bopara (46) and Luke Wright (71 off 49) adding 102 for the opening wicket in 11.2 overs. Once Netherlands’ pacer Ryan ten Doeschate got Bopara, things went downhill for England. Wright kept them going at one end but the others collapsed as England settled for only 162/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, the underdog Netherlands chased down the target on the last ball of the match as they won the match by four wickets.

Graeme Smith and Jacques Kallis: 87 runs against Scotland

Scotland played the second match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2009 tournament against South Africa. It was important for them to win the match to be alive in the competition as they had already lost the first match against New Zealand. However, the Proteas skipper Graeme Smith ended Scotland’s hope after setting up a partnership with the all-rounder Jacques Kallis.

Asked to bat first, Kallis made a 31-ball 48 and added 87 runs in 9.3 overs for the first wicket with Smith who scored 38 runs. AB de Villiers’s blistering knock of unbeaten 79 runs led South Africa to set the highest total of the tournament, 211 runs (211/5).

In reply, Scotland were folded up for just 81 runs at the Oval as Proteas crushed them by 130 runs.

Tillakaratne Dilshan and Sanath Jayasuriya: 81 runs against Pakistan

Jayasuriya who made 26 off 24 balls, stitched up 81 runs partnership with Dilshan before losing his wicket. Their partnership became the fifth highest partnership in the ICC T20 World Cup 2009.

Four Bowlers Who Leaked More Than 30 Runs In An Over In IPL

Yuvraj Singh, with his explosive batting in the 2007 T20 World Cup, showed that a batsman can score 36 runs in an over. After Andrew Flintoff provoked him, Yuvraj smacked six sixes in Stuart Broad’s over (6 balls). It became the most expensive over of T20I history. And after that innings, Yuvraj was called sixer king.

So far, no batsman has been able to break his record at the international platform. However, in T20 leagues, few explosive batsmen have scored more than 30 runs in an over. Nevertheless, scoring more than 30 runs in an over is a disgrace for the bowler.

Here, in this article, where we have discussed four bowlers who leaked more than 30 runs in an over in IPL:

4) Rahul Sharma: 31 runs

Chris Gayle is the T20 specialist, especially he builds the record in IPL. He holds the highest individual IPL score, 175* runs against Pune Warriors. He has also scored the fastest IPL century.

He showed the youngster Rahul Sharma how dangerous he could be at times. In the 2012 edition against Pune  Warriors, chasing a huge target of 183, RCB lost some early wickets. Then Gayle changed the whole scenario when Rahul came to bowl 13th over of the innings. Saurabh Tiwary, who was batting on the other end took a single on the first balls and then Gayle got the strike. He went on to hit six in the next five balls of that over. In total, Rahul leaked 31 runs in an over.

Kumar Sangakkara Will Lead MCC Team for Pakistan Tour

On last Wednesday (29th January), the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has announced their squad for the upcoming 2020 Pakistan tour. Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman and current MCC President Kumar Sangakkara will lead the MCC side.

MCC will tour to Pakistan this February to play some cricket matches. This tour is the long-stated aim for the MCC World Cricket committee who wants to support Pakistan’s cricket that has been hugely affected for over a decade. As the ICC’s full members are still not interested in playing in Pakistan immediately, this MCC tour has the aim to decrease the fear about the security system in Pakistan.

In the upcoming Pakistan tour, the MCC team will play around three T20 matches. Apart from playing against the two PSL teams, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans, MCC will also face Northern – the latest champions of the National T20 Cup (Pakistan’s domestic T20 tournament).

Also, the MCC will reportedly play a One-off one-day match against Pakistan Shaheens during this impending tour. The London club will play these matches at Lahore between 13th and 19th February 2020, just ahead of the PSL 2020. Pakistan will also host the entire PSL 2020 that will run from 20th February to 22nd March 2020.

Ravi Bopara has been included in Kumar Sangakkara-led MCC team

While the club has announced the 12-member squad for this upcoming Pakistan tour, Sangakkara will lead this MCC side.

The present MCC President was a member of the Sri Lankan team who bears witness to the terrorist attack in Lahore in March 2009. Subsequently, that incident had hugely affected that country’s cricket.
