Eric Bischoff Discusses The Infamous Shawn Michaels Vs. Hulk Hogan Match

The dream match was finally produced back in 2005 and it was the main event of SummerSlam pay per view event of the mentioned year. But the dream match was actually not like how the fans wanted it to be. It was more of a mockery than an actual professional wrestling match.

Shawn Michaels kept on overselling all the moves delivered by Hulk Hogan as if Michaels was mocking Hogan. Everybody laughed at this match. The match that would have been a wrestling classic turned out to be one of the most infamous matches in professional wrestling history.

But Michaels clarified himself and his anger after this match since Hogan never put any effort to promote this match, in fact it was all Michaels who kept on promoting this match every week on Monday Night RAW, and even outside of WWE. This is why Michaels was really angry on Hogan and he took his revenge during this match. A lot of pundits and fans supported him but some criticized him too.

Eric Bischoff who is a former General Manager of WWE Raw recently spoke on his 83 Weeks podcast where he remembered the infamous match between Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan from SummerSlam 2005 and explain why he lost respect for Michaels after this match. He said;

“I lost all respect for Shawn Michaels. It was pretty clear. There was an issue between Hulk and Shawn Michaels. There was a lack of respect, I think, there, perhaps some jealousy on Shawn’s part that, ‘Here’s this Hulk Hogan. He’s still here. He’s still the guy.’ I don’t know. I wasn’t close to Shawn at that point.”

“He knew what was going on. He knew he was being embarrassed out there by Shawn and he knew it was intentional. He wasn’t angry. I even remember seeing him after the match because I went right to him. I don’t wanna say feelings were hurt – that’s not the right way to say it. I think he was just extremely disappointed because he knew it sucked.”
