WWE SmackDown star and a former two times WWE NXT champion Karrion Kross who is currently active in a feud with Drew McIntyre recently talked about the current WWE Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and compared his current run as champion with the iconic world title run of WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino.
Bruno Sammartino is it professional wrestling Legend who was active in the world of professional wrestling throughout the 60s 70s and 80s. He has been the longest reigning WWE Champion in the history of the promotion. He earned a total of two WWE Championship reigns and both of them were pretty iconic.
Karrion Kross Compares Roman Reigns With Bruno Sammartino
His first title run lasted for nearly 8 years. He won the Championship in 1963 and did not drop it until 1971. And his second title reign also lasted for three and a half years. As we have mentioned earlier, Sammartino is the longest reigning WWE World Champion in the history. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.
Fans often compare his iconic reign with the one of Roman Reigns that is going on right now. But there is a huge difference, WWE produces multiple shows every week these days, and back then there were no weekly shows and only live shows, that also was not regular. So it is impossible to bring back those days, and to make WWE more exciting, Roman has to drop at least one title.
Karrion Kross who is currently active in a feud with Drew McIntyre recently spoke to The Ringer Wrestling show where he talked about the current WWE Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns and compared his current run as champion with the iconic world title run of WWE Hall of Famer Bruno Sammartino. He said;
“Roman Reigns [is who I wanna work with next]. I feel like everyone should wanna be in the ring with Roman Reigns. For me, I hope nobody minds that I’m comparing him but, to me he’s our modern-day Bruno [Sammartino]. What he’s doing right now in my opinion is historic for our company’s history, this art of storytelling.
“It’s an amazing thing and it’s going very, very well. People are having fun, they’re enjoying what they’re watching, it’s something different every week but it’s — I could go on and on. That’s the guy that I’d wanna be in the ring with. Aside from that, I mean, I’m a people pleaser so whoever people really wanna see me in the ring with, me personally, that’s the direction I’m gonna lean in.
“I like big fight feel, I like those freak show fights, those Superman versus Batman, this shouldn’t happen, we wish it would happen but there’s no way it does happen and then it happens and it happens at WWE and that’s why people come to see the show, to cultivate the energy in a building. I wake up every day for that, I train for that, I’m aiming for that, you know?”
