The winner of the 2018 Mae Young Classic tournament Toni Storm has been shockingly released by WWE according to reports. Storm was receiving a main event title push against the WWE SmackDown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair and she was having quite a good time on Friday Night Smackdown.

She was promoted on to the main roster just a number of months ago and from the very first day of joining the main roster she was being treated as a serious deal. She was very young and had a lot of potential. It seems like WWE had big plans for the Kiwi professional wrestler.

Toni Storm Reportedly Released By WWE, What To Expect Next

It is believed that Storm herself asked for her release and WWE granted her what she wanted. The real reason behind such a shocking demand has not been revealed yet. This surprising news has been reported by Fightful and PWInsider.

So another prospect has been added to the list of released stars by WWE this year. When WWE started their releasing spree, it only seemed like they would be releasing stars the brought from the Independent circuit and other professional wrestling promotions.

But after the releases of Braun strowman and Bray Wyatt, it was very much understood that no one was safe in WWE. These two were the finest of prospects from WWE and they had been pushed to the moon by the promotion at a point. Nobody thought they would get released just like that.

It has been reported that Tony stone asked for her release herself. It is quite shocking that even after receiving such an excellent treatment in WWE, she asked for her release herself. She might have had some personal problems but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The 26 year old professional wrestler started working with WWE from 2017 and and from 2018 she started working as a regular star. Except of winning the Mae Young Classic in 2018, she also won the NXT UK Women’s Championship one time.  WWE must have had high plans for her at the main roster as well.

Storm might be another wrestler who would be heading to the All Elite Wrestling following her WWE departure. AEW greeted almost all the released WWE stars of this year with open arms. Storm is an amazingly talented individual so any promotion would be profited signing her.

After the departure of Toni Storm, the death of the women’s roster in Friday Night Smackdown would be quite weak. It would be interesting to see how WWE manages this situation. Maybe they would bring in some talents from the NXT to fill this gap.
