What Made Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels So Special
This match was booked for the longest time period for the night. And the match did not get boring for even a microsecond. Fans those witnessed it live consider themselves too lucky that they watched search and amazing contest.
But what made this match actually so good? There are actually a lot of theories about it. The first one and the most obvious one was, both of them are two of the best in the business, how can an encounter between two of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time go wrong? Well they are examples from WrestleManias after that, where two biggest wrestlers of all time result but could not give a praiseworthy match. Foreign example AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura from WrestleMania 34.
Both Shawn Michaels and Kurt Angle was having a little downtime when the match took place. As soon as they got to wrestle in this match, they delivered a performance that actually proved their worth. This is one of the biggest reasons why this match was so good.
Kurt Angle once spoke about this match in an episode of the Kurt Angle show where he said;
“Wrestling Shawn was a dream come true. Going into it, we ended up having the story – the angle started at the Rumble. I was so excited because when I first saw Shawn wrestle at Survivor Series a couple of years prior, I had never watched him wrestle before. So, the first time, I was in awe.
“It came down to him and five guys on the other team because it was elimination. He went through those five guys – he didn’t win and lost at the very end – but he eliminated four of them. The way he sold, his technique, his charisma – Shawn is without a doubt the best overall performer I’ve ever seen.”
