This tag team match at WrestleMania XL had multiple storylines as Rey Mysterio had a long time rivalry with his son Dominik Mysterio and we also experienced an epic father vs. son match at WrestleMania 39. Rey Mysterio and the LWO is also having a rivalry with Santos Escobar ever since Escobar left the LWO.
Escobar was previously a member of the LWO faction but he decided to betray his teammates and reform Legado Del Fantasma with Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo. Later, Elektra Lopez also joined the faction. Escobar is having a feud ever since he turned heel and finally he would have his big match at WWE WrestleMania XL.
WWE WrestleMania XL – Rey Mysterio and Andrade vs. Santos Escobar and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio
To make things more interesting, Dominik Mysterio teamed up with Escobar to reignite his feud with his father. Dragon Lee, on the other hand, was supposed to team up with Rey Mysterio to help him take on the evil force of Dominik Mysterio and Santos Escobar. But Lee was attacked by Legado Del Fantasma on Smackdown last week and he was replaced by Andrade.
This match had been booked as the third match of the night. This match was pretty personal. A lot of fans wanted to see a one on one rematch between father and son but the tag team is not a bad idea either since Andrade and Santos Escobar had all the reason to be involved in this big match.
Escobar and “Dirty” Dom entered the arena and the ring first followed by the fan favourites. The match had been pretty high flying from the very first minute and the babyface side came out stronger at first. Andrade had been pretty impressive with his high flying manoeuvres but the fans did not show much excitements in this match as the Tag Team match’s impact was still not gone.
As Dominik Mysterio was about to bring a chair into the match, two masked men came out to stop them. Andrade and Rey Mysterio took the advantage of the situation as Rey hit a 619 on both of his and pinned Escobar with a Splash at WrestleMania XL. The two masked men were revealed to be the two members from the Philadelphia Eagles.
