Jemimah Rodrigues, the Mumbai U-19 captain and only second women to score a double century in the U-19 women’s league, has been called up to the India  A side for the three-match One-day and T20 series against the visiting Bangladesh A side.

Rodrigues came into limelight when she became just the second women to score a double century in U-19 women’s cricket. Smriti Mandhana, the India opener, was the first one to do so when she played an innings of 224 against Gujarat.

Rodrigues is yet to play any first-class or List A game and got selected in the India second string side purely by her superlative performance in junior cricket.

Anuja Patil, who has played 24 T20Is for India, will lead the side in both the series. The team also includes international players like M D Thirushkamini, Manshi Joshi and Nuzhar Praveen. Joshi and Praveen were the part of team Indian team during 2017 World Cup, where the Mitali Raj-led side finished as the runner-up.

The three-match One-Day series will be played at Hubli on December 2, 5 and 7, while T20 games will be played at Belgaum on December 12, 14 and 16. Ahead of the start of the series, Bangladesh will also participate in two practice warm-up games on November 26 and 28 which will be played in Alur.

It is the first time we BCCI has organised an ‘A’ series including women team. The step was taken from the board as a part of its development programme, after the success of women’s team in World Cup.
