Louis Van Gaal won’t be a happy man after reading this. Ex-Manchester United striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez is on a roll. The Mexican has scored 21 goals this season for Bayer Leverkusen which is the same as what Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have managed together but that’s not all. The statistic that would give Van Gaal sleepless nights is that Chicharito has scored more goals than Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo in the last 16 games across all competiitons.
Hernandez has 19 in the last 16 matches while Messi has 15 and Cristiano Ronaldo 16. Even the top scorers of the Bundesliga, Serie A, EPL or the Ligue 1 have not been able to surpass him. The entire Manchester United team has also managed the same amount in the last 16 games. Oops!
Last month (when Louis Van Gaal’s position was a bit more secure) the Manchester United boss defended his decision to sell Hernandez because he could not guarantee him a place in the starting XI.
He was quoted by The Telegraph saying “We could have kept all the strikers, but then there would have been a lot of strikers in the stand. They are not happy then. They want to go away. It is the story of Hernandez for example,He wants to play. I can imagine that he can’t always play in this world.”
On current form one thing is for sure, Javier Hernandez would be the first name on the Manchester United teamsheet.
United sold Hernandez for a paltry £8.75 million and he has outperformed some of the big money strikers like Benzema, Higuain, and Aubameyang and he will certainly have a host of offers to leave Leverkusen at the end of the season.
