India skipper Virat Kohli has reiterated the fact that he is unperturbed by all the heavy criticism he has faced in the ongoing series against Australia.
The 28-year old batsman found himself on the receiving end of the blame game from the Australia media as well as some former players from Down Under for his conduct in the four-match series. He has been been continuously targeted by the Aussie media ever since he accused the Australians of breaking the ruled for making DRS decisions on numerous occasions during the Bengaluru Test.
Australian news outlet The Daily Telegraph called the India skipper “Donald Trump of sport”. In an another piece on the Indian star, the daily wrote: “Virat Kohli’s captaincy is an iron-fisted dictatorship and Australia must brace themselves for the attack of the clones in Ranchi… Kohli might be a cricketing tyrant and an enemy of democracy, but the only ones feeling oppressed are those on the other team.
However, the widespread criticism has not affected Kohli at all. Speaking ahead of the fourth and final Test in Dharamsala, he said that the outside comments don’t matter him and he just gives importance to what his teammates and close ones feel.
“It’s something that is happening on the outside. What I try to do is to look inside as to what are the things that I need to improve on as a cricket, as a person and what my teammates think of me, what my close people think of me. These things do not matter to me so much and they have never mattered,” said the player who after the Bengaluru Test had said 1.2 billion Indians fully support him.
The Delhi star further insisted that he is not facing such a situation for the first time in his life before reminding everyone that he firmly backs his claims on the DRS controversy. He also took a sly dig at the Australia media by wishing them good luck for using his name to sell their news.
“I faced this initially in my career and I faced this many times before. So, I have always stuck by the right thing, I have always done the right thing, I have always said what I wanted to because I feel its right. So, I have no regrets about it and I have nothing to go back and change. I am surprised that so many people are getting affected by one individual. Good luck to them. It’s selling their news so good luck to them.”
