Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finally registered their second victory in IPL 2017 after beating Gujarat Lions (GL) at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Rajkot) on Tuesday night. After winning the toss, GL elected to bowl first. However, RCB made a big total of 213/2 at the end 20 overs in the first innings.
In reply, GL managed to score 192/7 at the end of 20 overs which means RCB won the match by 21 runs.

- RCB batsman Chris Gayle completed 10,000 runs in his entire T20 career. Gayle became the first batsman to score 10,000 runs in T20 career.
- RCB batsman Chris Gayle played a superb knock of 77 runs. It was his 24th 50+ knock for RCB in the IPL history. It is the joint most no.of 50+ knocks in IPL history by an overseas batsman for a particular IPL franchise. David Warner has also played the same no.of 50+ knock (24 times) for SRH in their IPL history.
Also, it was Chris Gayle’s 26th 50+ knock in his IPL career, which is the second most no.of 50+ knocks by an overseas batsman in the IPL history. With this 77 runs knock, Gayle surpassed AB de Villiers who has 25 times 50+ knock in his IPL career. The record holder is David Warner with 36 times 50+ knocks (also the most no. of 50+ knock by a batsman in IPL history) in his IPL career.
- RCB made a total of 213/2 in 20 overs. Here are some important stats of this innings:
i) It is the highest total in the IPL history at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium (Rajkot). In fact, it is the first time in IPL history when a team put 200 or more runs on the scoreboard at this venue. The previous highest total in IPL history at this venue was 184/0 (14.5 overs) by KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) on 7th April 2017.
ii) It (213/2) is the third highest total for RCB in the IPL history at the away venue (outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru). The top two in this list are: 235/1 (20 overs) against MI (Mumbai Indians) at Mumbai on 10th May 2015 and 215/1 (20 overs) against DD (Delhi Daredevils) at Delhi on 17th May 2012.
iii) Also, it is the second highest total for a team against GL. The highest total record holder is also RCB who had made 248/3 (20 overs) against GL at Bengaluru on 14th may 2016.
- GL left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was very expensive in this match as his bowling figure was 4-0-57-0. It is the most expensive bowling figure by a GL bowler. The previous record was 4-0-51-1 by Praveen Kumar against RPS (Rising Pune Supergiant) at Rajkot on 14th April 2017.
- Chasing down the big total, GL batsman Brendon McCullum played a brilliant knock of 72 runs. It is the second highest individual score by a GL batsman at their home venue (Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot). The record is 75 runs knock by Suresh Raina against SRH (Sunrisers Hyderabad) on 21st April 2016.
- Chasing down a big total, GL made a total of 192/7 at the end of 20 overs. It is the second highest total for GL in their IPL history. Their highest total is 196/7 (20 overs) against RPS (Rising Pune Supergiants) at Pune on 29th April 2016.
- RCB batsmen Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli put a great 122 runs partnership for the opening wicket. It is the 2nd highest opening partnership for RCB at the away venue (outside the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium at Bengaluru). Their record opening partnership at the away venue is 123 runs between Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan against KKR (Kolkata Knight Riders) at Kolkata on 22nd April 2011.
