On Saturday night, Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their winning streak in this IPL season after beating Delhi Daredevils (DD) in a low-scoring encounter at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai). After winning the toss, DD decided to bowl first. DD restricted MI for just 142/8 in 20 overs.

In reply, DD failed to reach the target as they only managed to score 128/7 in 20 overs. MI won this match by 14 runs.

It is the joint second highest partnership in the IPL history (also 91* runs partnership between RCB’s AB de Villiers and Iqbal Abdulla for their 7th wicket against Gujarat Lions at Bengaluru on 24th May 2016). The highest 7th wicket partnership in the IPL history is 100 runs between Harbhajan Singh and Jagadeesha Suchith (Mumbai Indians) against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Mumbai on 12th April 2015.

 

  1. After losing first 6 wickets, total 104 runs by DD. In the IPL history, it is the most runs added by a team after losing their first 6 wickets. The previous highest was 100 runs by MI (Mumbai Indians) against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Mumbai on 12th April 2015.

 

  1. No. 8 DD batsman Chris Morris hit a half-century as he scored an unbeaten 52 runs. It is the second time in IPL history when a no.8 batsman scored 50+ runs. Previously, Harbhajan Singh (Mumbai Indians) had scored 64 runs against KXIP (Kings XI Punjab) at Mumbai on 12th April 2015.

i) It is the 3rd lowest successful defending total for MI in their IPL history. The top two lowest successfully defending total for MI in their IPL history are 120/9 against PW (Pune Warriors) at Pune on 3rd May 2012 and 139/5 against CSK (Chennai Super Kings) in Mumbai on 5th May 2013.

ii) It is the lowest total defended successfully by a team in IPL 2017. The previous record was 157/8 (20 overs) by RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore) against DD at Bengaluru on 8th April 2017.

iii) Also, it is the 5th lowest total defended by a team at the Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai).
