Manchester United suffered a massive blow with veteran striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s horrific knee injury last week as initial estimations suggest that the 35-year old can be out for at least nine to twelve months before making a comeback to the side.
Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera has revealed that the Swede have gathered the squad ahead of their Sunday clash against Burnley and told them about his injury while wishing them his best wishes for the rest of the season.
Manchester United were hugely benefited by signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic on free deal in summer and the striker have taken the complete responsibility of scoring goals in the first half of the season when the entire team were almost out of form.
He defied the odds and became the oldest player ever to score 20 goals in Premier League and have tumbled a number of records over the course of the season. However, having had only year on his deal and suffering a major setback in the form of latest injury, Manchester United will most definitely not extend the contract of Zlatan despite his incredible form this season.
Herrera has told that the Swedish legend has revealed the news to the squad in the training ground and has praised Zlatan’s incredible mentality and wished him to be back on the football pitch in the future.
‘It is true that he [Ibrahimovic] was down at the training ground yesterday and spoke to the group,’ said Herrera.
‘But he did not say much, really. He wished us only good luck with the rest of the season.”
‘He has an incredible mentality and a great physique, I have never seen such a good football body. I am quite sure he will make it back.’
Zlatan Ibrahimovic will now mostly miss most of the next season and will mostly remain a free agent by the time he makes a comeback into the game again. He will now consult a knee specialist in USA as he looks to defy the odds and get back after rupturing his knee ligaments.
It remains to be seen whether the Swede will remain in Europe or make a move to MLS or China next season as he will be in the fag end of his incredible career.
