Nazmul Hasan, the President of Bangladesh Cricket Board has said Australian cricket Board has confirmed a series against Bangladesh,
“Australia series has been finalised,” he said.
“I am saying it because the President of their board told me on the last day of the meeting – Wednesday – that he and his wife are coming to watch the first Test. That was the first time he said anything about the series during the meeting,” Hasan added.
His comments have come after Hasan returned from the ICC meet in Dubai, where all the member countries outvoted BCCI, to minimise their impact in ICC.
Australia was originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in the year 2015 but they delayed their arrival citing security issues. Eventually, they did not travel to the country.
A few months later, the Australian Board also did not allow their Under 19 team to travel to Bangladesh for the Under 19 World Cup. Ireland replaced Australia in the ICC tournament. Since then, the series has been in balance but Bangladesh was optimistic of Australia playing the series.
The security issues continued to brew in Bangladesh which also loomed threat over England’s tour to the country. ECB’s secure team toured the country and after getting full-proof insurance, they let their team fly to Bangladesh in the month of October/November.
However, there were a couple of players who withdrew from the tour citing security concerns.
Till now, there has been no official word from Cricket Australia and it will be interesting to see whether when they will deliver an official statement on this tour.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh and Australia are set to face each other in the Champions Trophy on June 5 at Kennington Oval. Bangladesh is participating in the tournament after a gap of 11 years, as they last participated in this tournament in 2006.
