Lalit Modi has a knack of grabbing the headlines and this time the former commissioner of the Indian Premier League has hogged the attention at the expense of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Modi, on Monday (May 8), leaked the employment offer letter of the former India skipper with India Cements which is owned by former BCCI chief N Srinivasan. The company also owned the now-suspended Chennai Super Kings from 2008 to 2014 before the franchise was transferred to a separate entity named Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd. In 2015 after the Supreme Court of India struck down the controversial amendment to the BCCI constitution’s clause 6.2.4 that allowed board officials to have a commercial interest in the IPL.
Modi took to Instagram to share the employment letter and questioned the motive behind such employment considering the fact that Dhoni earns approximately Rs.100 crore in a year.
According to the shared letter, Dhoni was appointed as the vice-president – marketing with India Cements in 2012. As per the contract, the Indian cricket star was offered a basic pay of Rs 43,000 per month. The 35-year old batsman also took home a fixed dearness allowance of Rs.21,970 per month, the special pay of Rs 20,000 on a monthly basis and special allowance of Rs 60,000 per month.
“It seems only in #india#contempt after contempt continues by the #old #guards of @bcci – How ? My best guess is #northblock. But most #puzzling is this #employment #contract of #MSD – WHY ? he earns 100’s of crores a year will he #agree to be #SRINI’S #employee. bet there are many such contracts,” Modi wrote on the Instagram post.
