A costly 16th over from Matt Henry and a dropped catch from skipper Glenn Maxwell could have cost Kings XI Punjab the game, the skipper reckoned but Mohit Sharma bowled a match-winning last over of the game, to not just win the game for his team but also keep Kings XI Punjab active in the race for Playoffs.
During the game, the momentum swung towards one side and then towards the other at one stage or the other. In the middle overs, Punjab may have thought that they had the game in the bag when they dismissed Rohit Sharma and Nitish Rana but as mentioned, the 16th over of the game shifted the momentum and the game was down to the last over.
At one end, it was Kieron Pollard, the batsman who has the ability to clear the fence at will and at the other end, it was Mohit Sharma, who banks on his variations and this time, it were the variations that won as Mumbai failed to chase down the target and hence, Punjab kept its chances alive.
Glenn Maxwell, the skipper of KXIP accepted the fact that the dropped catch could have cost the team but was happy with a hard-fought and well-earned win in the end as he said –
I thought my drop catch may have cost us the game. We dropped two, missed run-out chances but for us to hold on the way we did, the credit to Sandeep and Mohit. Those two overs, in the end, were absolute class. It was dewy, the ball was slippery. It was tough work, to execute when the pressure was on, with a guy like Pollard out there, was outstanding. We played fearless cricket. Hashim led the way for us, today for Saha to get the reward was superb. We’ve thrown him up and down the order, been a little harsh on him, but he’s been superb. We still have some work to do, would be nice to sneak in through the back door.
