WWE Universe witnessed a classic contest between two veteran superstars of Smackdown Live.
It was Kevin Owens defending his United States championship against AJ Styles. Ever since Owens was shifted to the blue brand, the fans wanted to witness this bout considering this one as a dream match.
As expected, the fans of the All-State Arena were part of the roller-coaster during the edge-of-the-seat contest. This was arguably the best contest of the Backlash PPV which witnessed a controversial finish.
Owens was able to pick up the victory after AJ Styles got counted out by the referee.
‘The face that runs the place’ delivered Phenomenal Forearm to Owens on the commentary table. But, moments later the US champion tripped him off his toes on the table. Meanwhile, his legs were stuck in between the cable kept on under the table. So, Styles never made it back to the ring.
Apparently, he also hurt his knee and ankle portion after hanging on his leg for quite sometimes. In addition, once the contest finished ‘the face of America’ delivered him with a superkick to increase it even more.
This was a clear indication of the sustained concussion during the match.
It’s not quite sure whether the injury suffered is legit or not. As seen in the match, Owens had targeted the knees of Styles for the entire part of the match. So, it might be that he was just trying to sell the injury like a true veteran.
Meanwhile, to keep the intensity ongoing in the storyline, AJ Styles might not be present on this week’s Smackdown Live. The fans might be depressed after hearing the rumour since he is the one who built Smackdown Live.
The way this contest at Backlash ended is a true indication that Styles is not done with Owens and there will be a rematch happening between them. It will be interesting to see how things progress once Smackdown comes on air from Toledo, Ohio, this week.
