The Indian cricket team left for the upcoming Champions Trophy from Mumbai on Wednesday, May 24. However, before flying to England to defend the trophy, India skipper Virat Kohli addressed the press conference.
The skipper was confident that the Indian team will be able to retain the Champions Trophy which they won in the year 2013, under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, who is now just a member of the team.
This time, the team have a number of experienced players in their side, with Yuvraj Singh being the most capped among them in CT. After that comes MS Dhoni, who is also the most successful captain India ever had.
Both the players will be the key for the team in the quest to defend the title. The onus will be on these two players apart from Virat Kohli. The main role for them will be to show the way to the team and take off the pressure from Kedar Jadhav, who will play for the first time in England.
Virat Kohli is well versed of the importance of these two senior members of the side and on being asked about them, he showered praises on his senior pros and said,
“The type of players these two are, the experience which they have under their belt, if they are given freedom in the middle order, they are the best. They are the most experienced batsmen in the team who know much better than anyone else that how to win the game for the team.”
“In the last series as well, both were playing openly and they were enjoying batting alongside each other which they have done in past as well. Watching these two bat like this way was a great thing and it also lifted the confidence of the team. It was the great thing which also boosted the environment of the team because if these two are in form, then the outlook of the team changes straightaway. They are the strongest pillars of the team and if they are in form, then it will be good for the team,” he added.
The most experienced members of team India have to show their experience on the field, as if these two players do well, then automatically the pressure will be on opposition team or else vice-verse can happen if the pair fails.
