As the glitzy Indian Premier League (IPL) has come to an end while celebrating its tenth year with so much of a success since its inception in 2008, the fan fever has receded from Twenty20 domestic competition in a bid to wear heart on their sleeves for the national team as they look forward to wrestling in the global event of 2017 ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales.
With zest and the zeal, cricket fanatics from the country has thrown in all their support behind Men in Blue, who’re going to defend the coveted title of Champions Trophy as the global event is starting from June 1 in England and Wales with hosts England facing Bangladesh in the inaugural of the tournament at The Oval.
In 2013, it was under the sublime leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India won the title after eking out a five-run win over the hosts England, in the rain-truncated final at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The timeline seems different this team as flamboyant batsman Virat Kohli is leading the side for the first time in the mega event who will be equally guided by experienced campaigner Dhoni while helping the Delhi-lad – to set the field in the crucial moments of the game.
Interestingly, the 15-member squad has two international skippers in the line-up which is further assisted by Ajinkya Rahane (stand-in skipper), Rohit Sharma, who had led the domestic IPL franchises respectively to bask the glory recently.
