Anil Kumble In Race Again For India's Head Coach Post 1

Anil Kumble has ‘officially’ forwarded his application for the job of Indian cricket team coach, according to the reports. The current coach forwarded his resume despite BCCI stating earlier that the former India skipper would be getting a direct entry into the coach selection process.

Anil Kumble and five other candidates — Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Richard Pybus, Lalchand Rajput, and Dodda Ganesh have been shortlisted by the BCCI and will be interviewed by the three-member cricket advisory committee (CAC) of the board, which is keen to identify the next coach before the end of the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 on June 18.

Kumble’s application was one of the first to arrive when the process was opened by the BCCI on May 25, according to a report in ESPN Cricinfo. Along with his CV, Kumble has forwarded a detailed roadmap illustrating his vision for the Indian cricket team’s future.

The CAC — that comprises of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman — is likely to meet in the next couple of days to finalise the interview schedule, as the BCCI is keen to appoint a new coach before the ICC Champions Trophy ends

Kumble was appointed as the head coach of the side last year. Under him, the team has played five Test series (West Indies, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh and Australia) and won every series with complete domination. They also played three ODI series (West Indies, New Zealand and England) and boast of hundred percent record once again. Unfortunately, after the Australia series, reports of a rumoured fall-out between captain Virat Kohli and the coach floated in the media.

BCCI’s decision to invite bids without discussing with the former spinner strengthened the reports that they have lost faith in the current coach’s abilities.
