India Moves To No.2 In The Latest ODI Ranking Charts, Pakistan Also Gain One Place 1

Team India has gained two places in the latest ICC ODI ranking released after the culmination of the 2nd semi-final of the Champions Trophy 2017 against Bangladesh.

The handsome nine-wicket win over Bangladesh at Edgbaston, Birmingham has helped India leapfrog Australia and England to become the No.2 ranked ODI side in the world. Meanwhile, arch-rivals Pakistan, India’s competition in the summit clash, has also gained one place and have moved ahead of Sri Lanka.

Defending champions India has three wins out of the four matches in the ongoing Champions Trophy. Pakistan also carries a similar win /loss tally.

The winner of the upcoming final contest at the Kennington Oval, London will gain a place each and vice versa. Plainly speaking, India will topple South Africa from the numero uno position and become the top-ranked ODI side whereas a loss would see them drop one place behind Australia.

Pakistan, too, will gain one place and move to No.6 in the ranking and push Bangladesh below to No.7. Whereas, a loss will see them return to the No.8 position at which they started the Champions Trophy 2017 campaign.

As expected other teams like South Africa and Australia are set to pay a small price for their under-performance in the multi-nation tournament. England, by virtue of reaching the semi-finals, will manage to stay firm at the No. 4 ranking in the ODI charts.

Pakistan would certainly like to win the finals against India to not only lift the Champions Trophy but also make themselves little safe from the borderline position of No.8 which keeps their quest for an automatic qualification to the 2019 World Cup under threat.

Bangladesh will be slightly unhappy to see no further progress in their rankings despite overwhelming performance in the tournament. The side is currently at ranked 6th but has too much gap to fill to overtake the 5th ranked New Zealand side who have 111 points as opposed to Bangladesh’s 93 points.
