Rain Scuppers First ODI Of India's Tour To West Indies 1

After three long hours before the last ball was bowled, finally, the first ODI of  India vs West Indies had a tedious end with rain playing hide and seek, not allowing even the completion of one complete inning. A good news came just in at 12:48 AM for the fans awake in India but just a few minutes later, the rain didn’t just pour down in West Indies but also on the hopes of fans which kept them awake. Even though ground didn’t have best of drainage facilities, it was the rain that played a spoilsport.

India still can take few of the positives from the game as Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane, by sharing 132 runs for the first wicket showed that India has a strong backup opener in form of Rahane, who played an innings of 62 off 78. Dhawan also played his part well by scoring 87.

Both of them though had a slow start but were a headache for the West Indies bowlers, who were struggling to get early breakthroughs but once the home bowlers got the first wicket, they were on the course.

Rahane was fooled by Alzarri Joseph who tweaked the speed of the ball and got Rahane caught at mid-on. His opening partner followed him after being trapped in front of stumps by Devendra Bishoo. Yuvraj Singh was the last wicket for India, who consumed 10 balls for his four runs.

The partnership of 14 between skipper Virat Kohli and former skipper MS Dhoni was left stranded by the virtue of rain coming in and spoiling the first ODI. With this, team India’s quest to test Kuldeep Yadav was also left behind.

The second ODI of the series will be played on June 25 at the same venue, where the fans will be praying that rain do not pour down like this again.

Brief Score: India 199/3 (Shikhar Dhawan 87, Ajinkya Rahane 62; Jason Holder 1-34) vs West Indies ends in no result.
