India Women began their 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup journey with a great note after clinching a victory against the hosts England Women on Saturday at Derby.
After winning the toss, England Women decided to field first. India Women put a good total on the board, as they scored 281/3 in 50 overs.
In reply, England Women were bundled out for 246 runs in 47.3 overs, as Indian Women won this match by 35 runs.

- Indian batswomen Punam Raut and Smriti Mandhana put a brilliant 144-runs partnership for the opening wicket. It is India Women’s third highest partnership for any wicket in the ICC Women’s World Cup history. The top two in this list are:
i) 175 runs partnership between Thirush Kamini and Punam Raut for the opening wicket against West Indies Women at Mumbai (Brabourne Stadium) on 31st January 2013
ii) 151 runs partnership between Anjum Chopra and Chanderkanta Kaul for the 3rd wicket against Sri Lanka Women at Lincoln at 15th December 2000.
- Indian Women’s skipper Mithali Raj once again played a 50+ knock, as she scored 71 runs. It was her 7th consecutive 50+ knock in ODI which is the new record in the Women’s ODI history. The previous record was six consecutive 50+ ODI knock which was held by Lindsay Reeler (Australia Women), Charlotte Edwards (England Women) and Ellyse Perry (Australia Women).
- Total three Indian batswomen scored 50+ runs during their innings (Punam Raut 86, Smriti Mandhana 90 and Mithali Raj 71). It is the second time in the ICC Women’s World Cup history when more than two Indian Women have scored 50+ runs in the same innings.
Before this innings, three Indian Women had scored 50+ runs in the same innings of ICC Women’s World Cup against Netherlands Women at Lincoln at 2nd December 2000.
- India Women scored 281/3 in 50 overs. It is their second highest total in their ICC Women’s World Cup history. Their record is 284/6 (50 overs) against West Indies Women at Mumbai (Brabourne Stadium) on 31st January 2013).
Also, it (281/3) is the highest ODI total for India Women against England Women. Their previous record was 243/4 (50 overs) at Kolkata on 9th December 2005.
