Apart from India and South Africa, none of the remaining teams have made it to the last 8s. Three teams (Pakistan, Ireland and West Indies) are set to fight for the remaining two spots and the teams boarding the flight to Wellington and Adelaide will be decided on Sunday when West Indies takes on UAE at Napier while Ireland and Pakistan face-off each other at Adelaide.
Currently, Ireland and Pakistan are with 6 points while West Indies just 4. But the Windies have a better run-rate than both those teams and a win against UAE would put them into the Quarters along with the winners of Pakistan vs Ireland. But it looks like both Pakistan and Ireland might qualify ahead of West Indies courtesy the rain threat which is at stake for the West Indies vs UAE clash at Napier. If it rains, Windies will take one point which will leave them 1 point less than Ireland and Pakistan.
Tropical Cyclone Pam, currently a category five superstorm, is bearing down on New Zealand’s east coast, bringing gale force winds and rain, but is not expected to make landfall before Monday. The forecast for Napier on Sunday is for cloudy weather and possible showers, sending a wave of apprehension through the West Indies camp as it needs a win from the last pool match to make the quarterfinals.
We have to play the game to give ourselves a chance, so we want sunshine. We need two points badly and we need it big, West Indies manager Richie Richardson said.
