We are all set to witness the biggest crowd in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup which will see the hosts England take on a resurgent Indian side who has defied all the odds and has beaten top notch teams to qualify for the final of the tournament. It will be fitting for a tournament to witness such a huge crowd especially with the quality of batting, bowling and fielding on display all through the tournament.
More than 26,500 tickets have been sold for the final and only the MCC members will be able to purchase any of the remaining tickets. This tournament has shattered all the records and for the very first time in the history, has all 31 games in the tournament were telecasted live with the ICC video content from the group stages viewed over 75 million times.
On the ground too, the records have been shattered. The tournament has seen more runs, more wickets and more players than any other Women’s World Cup in the past. The quality of the matches has been high class and some of the girls have made a name for themselves courtesy some brilliant performances in the tournament.
The ICC Women’s World Cup director Steve Elworthy said, “We promised that this would be the best-ever ICC Women’s World Cup and I believe that the statistics – on and off the field – show that we have delivered on that pledge. The attendances have been outstanding and they have been treated to some exciting, exhilarating cricket.”
Clare Connor, the chairperson of the ICC Women’s Committee, said, “The challenge for this tournament was to ensure that we showcased the talent of the world’s best cricketers and to inspire the next generation of girls and women to engage with the game.
“The quality of cricket has been truly fantastic and the demographics of the crowds we’ve seen reveal that we have attracted thousands of girls and women to attend. Now we have to retain that level of interest to continue to build a new fan base and drive levels of participation, both in this country and around the world,” she signed off.
