BCCI Could Have Handled The Situation In More Professional Way: Gautam Gambhir On Anil Kumble's Exit 1

The way in which Anil Kumble made a goodbye to the Indian dressing room, it was a big surprise. He had led India to successful triumph in the long home season and the team climbed to the number one spot in Test rankings under his tutelage and also qualified for the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy, but just a day after the loss against Pakistan in the summit clash, Kumble resigned from the post. Neither players nor the board had any idea about his exit.

Kumble was to have a late arrival in the Indian camp for the Windies series due to an ICC meeting. Everyone thought that he was absent from the aeroplane due to this reason but as soon as team India landed in West Indies, they came to know about Kumble stepping down from the post. It was a surprising news and Kumble in his note mentioned the reason why he bid adieu to the job.

‘Untenable’ relation with the skipper who had reservations with his style was the reason behind his exit but Virat Kohli did not pay much heed to the matter and asked everyone to maintain the sanctity of the dressing room. From that day, any of the BCCI officials are yet to make a comment on Kumble’s exit, which has also come as a big surprise.

Kumble is an icon in Indian cricket and also the highest wicket-taker for India in Tests and ODI format, however, no board official has uttered a word yet.

Gautam Gambhir, the discarded Indian batsman, thinks that the board could have handled the situation in a professional manner, as a legend like Kumble deserves utmost respect,

“BCCI could have handled it in a lot more professional way. You got to give a legend like Anil Kumble a lot more respect. He is someone who has done so much for Indian cricket and has been a captain as well. If you handle the issue in this fashion it gives a poor image. I think because of that you got the kind of coach applicants you got to consider,” Gambhir told India today.

His words have so much power, as it is the responsibility of the board to oversee the events going in the Indian dressing room. Along with the board, players are also to be blamed, as not even a single player talked about Kumble after his exit. This was also surprising to see. Surely, each player knows that he has to stand by the captain so as to sustain his place in the team.
