Though Indian women’s team suffered a defeat in the final of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017 at the hands of England but the way they played throughout the tournament, it was an inspiration for the whole nation.
Before the start of the tournament, team India was not the favourite to qualify for the finals but they played opposite to the hopes and showed that they have the power to fulfil their dreams.

The team was on the cusp of winning the title for the first time in history when they bowled out England on a low score of 228. Low scoring games are always tricky but after having a poor start, Indian women team made a strong comeback. Experience what was needed for the team to sail the boat past the winning total but the lack of it in the team cost the side and they lost the game by a margin of just nine runs. Still, it was a moral victory for India as in past 12 years – the last time when India played a final – things have changed. Now public see this team as their role model.
The kind of play which the team put up in the tournament has earned them praises from all around the world and now the board is all set to honour the members of the Indian women’s cricket team upon their return to the country. Indian team is scheduled to fly back on Wednesday in groups and once the whole team is back, the board will organise a function to commemorate the success of the team in the World Cup.

The members of the team will be given a cheque of 50 Lakhs, as promised by BCCI, whereas, support staff will be paid an amount of 25 Lakhs. The board is planning to organise a meeting of the members of the team with PM Narendra Modi, who himself wished luck to the team ahead of the game. Even after the game, PM sent out a heartful message for the team,
“They lost the final but made the nation proud with their performance. The BCCI will organise a felicitation for the team and we are also trying to fix up a meeting with Prime Minister Modi. There is a feeling (among the BCCI and COA) that the surge in popularity of the women’s game should be cashed in on. One way to build on the World Cup gains is by having a women’s IPL. The focus now should immediately turn to the World T20 next year,” an official told The Indian Express.
Though the board is yet to come up with an official announcement, they will make it clear as soon as the team lands in India.
