As things return to normalcy and cricket once again becomes the centre of attraction in Australia, post all the chaos, the stakeholders can now look up to the tour of Bangladesh with great excitement.
This will be the first time Australia will play a Test series in Bangladesh in more than a decade, having previously won 2-0 in 2006, when Ricky Ponting led the side.
Australia’s previous Test assignment was a serious affair, which surely brought the best out of the side. Despite losing the series 2-1 to India, Steven Smith and his men can look back at that tour with great pride and memories, having completely drained out India till the very last to produce a result.
This is what makes the upcoming series in Bangladesh even more enthralling, as Australia will look to build on that tour of India. An exciting prospect for the Kangaroos is talented leg spinner Mitchell Swepson, who is likely to debut for the kangaroos. After being rated quite highly in the domestic circuit, the leggie is now geared up to make an impression in Bangladesh.
“I’ve done a bit of net bowling to the Aussies Test players before,” Swepson said about his memories of the tour of India. “But I’d never got to sit side by side with them in the change room, so that was a big moment. “Sitting next to some of them, it was a bit of a moment to realise just how big a stage it was and where I was exactly.”
“It was pretty unreal, I had a ball. “I got plenty of bowling done, even though I didn’t get a game and the whole tour was just a great experience in itself. “Plenty of conversations with all the players there and I was a bit of a sponge and soaked it all in, so it was an awesome experience and I took a lot out of it.”
Speaking of his memories with the team after the emphatic win in Pune, he said,
“After we won that, the boys made an effort to say that it was a whole squad effort and even though there were 11 blokes out on the field there’s still a lot of blokes helping out. “I guess we took that culture through the whole tour. “The boys enjoyed themselves and we played some really good cricket, so that was when I felt part of the team.”
