Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Peshawar Zalmi’s owner Javed Afridi on Thursday revealed the professional Twenty20 domestic outfit would bear all the expenses of Zubair Ahmed Mohammed’s family, who died after being hit by a cricket ball twice on his head on Pakistan’s Independence Day (August 14) in Mardan.
After Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had expressed the grief on youth’s death and voiced their opinion for safety gears, the Zalmi management has also extended the condolences to his family in Katlang.

The youngster was sweating it out in the nets when a short and rising delivery hit around his earlobe, before another ball struck his neck when he was batting at the (Sir) Nazim Cricket Academy (NCA) in the far flung area of Mardan, a place which is located in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.
“(The) first ball hit him near his ear and then the second ball hit near his neck due to which he collapsed,” the mentor at the cricket academy Bakht Mohammad was quoted as saying by Dawn.
Following the major announcement, Javed further revealed the venture would bear educational costs and particularly the cricket training disbursement for Zubair’s younger brother Uzair Mohmend.
The major step has been taken by the PSL outfit to help the youngster in becoming a professional cricketer and eventually make his brother’s unconditional love for gentleman’s a reality on the cricket field with his sheer hard work in the foreseeable future.
The intermediate student, Zubair was a regular visitor to the Academy for the practice sessions, as his dedication has further impressed the seniors in the academy, as he opted to bat for the last time in his life on the national holiday.
On the other side, the cricket academy mentor Mohammad has effusively praised and recalled the efforts of a promising batsman, who was also a brother to five sisters while revealing the teenager has further insisted to play in nets.
“It was an off day in the academy due to 14th August,” Mohammad asserted.
Interestingly, Zalmi management further made a statement that Uzair would travel with the Darren Sammy-led side for the third edition of the PSL which is scheduled in 2018, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The left-handed batsman Fakhar Zalmi, who has been quintessential for Pakistan in the ICC Champions triumph, was also invited to the same hometown Academy.
“We had organised a ceremony to celebrate Independence Day at the academy where world-acclaimed cricketer Fakhar Zaman was invited,” Mohammad added.
However, Zubair’s coach also revealed the batsman was wearing all the protective gears before hitting the nets with other players.
“(Zubair) Ahmed breathed his last on his way to Mardan (hospital),” Mohammad concluded.
Zubair was shifted to a local hospital in Katlang before he was referred to Mardan owing to his deteriorated condition. Coming to the conclusion, Academy coach stated the staffers had also warned Zubair to avoid practising on the completion of 70 years of Independence for Pakistan.
