WWE brought back the Punjabi Prison match at this year’s Battleground PPV. This was a move to solidify Jinder Mahal’s WWE title reign as well as a treat for the fans of the subcontinent. The demonic structure was back in the WWE after more than a decade which also witnessed an involvement from the innovator himself, The Great Khali.
While the PPV was hyped up with this structure’s return, the match itself was quite dull considering no such mark-out moments. The only surprise came when Khali made his return to help Jinder to win the match and retain the WWE Championship. However, the move made the USA fans disgusted since Jinder was so desperate to come out as the victorious one.
Another reason behind this match being an unsuccessful one was the view. The traditional structures like Steel Cage or Hell in a Cell have one layer of steel whereas this structure has two layers of bamboos surrounding the ring. Since the camera-persons record from outside the ring, the inside view gets obstructed for the spectators.
How is @FloydMayweather vs @TheNotoriousMMA not in a Punjabi Prison? Money left on the table guys #Kayfabe

This complaint was lodged by the fans, earlier. Now, Randy Orton who was Jinder’s opponent inside the Punjabi Prison took a shot at the structure which indicates that he was not happy either about this match.
Then no one would be able to see the fight because the view would be obstructed by the two walls of ‘bamboo’ -duh https://t.co/5YHv7PbbYT

A Twitter user took a sarcastic way wanting Mayweather vs. McGregor to happen inside the Punjabi Prison. Orton replied back to him stating that no one will be able to see the fight since the view will be obstructed fully by the bamboo walls.
The Great Khali is said to be the innovator of the Punjabi Prison match who gave the idea to the WWE Creative heads. He illustrated to the creative how the cage used to capture the prisoners in the huge cage made of pure bamboo in his home state of Punjab. The show hosts gave it a thought to bring this one as a separate gimmick match since, at that point, Khali was booked as a monster in the WWE. Jinder being the WWE Champion was the same reason to bring it back.
