Cricket South Africa head coach Russell Domingo in his recent interview at the Twenty20 Global League draft in Cape Town revealed the time is all over for him with the Proteas national side.
“My time is done with the Proteas. It’s time to move on,” Domingo was quoted as saying by Independent Media.
However, the CSA management is yet to give out the verdict regarding Domingo coaching stint, who has been at the helm for six years since 2011-12.
“I’ve had a wonderful six years with the national side,” Domingo added.
The 42-year-old Port Elizabeth-born Domingo further believes it’s a time to look out for other opportunities, as the Global T20 league’s franchise Pretoria Mavericks have roped Domingo as a coach while announcing the Pretoria-born AB de Villiers as their marquee player.
Domingo reiterated he has enjoyed working alongside quality batsman which expressing a surprise of his coaching role, particularly in Pretoria.
“It’s good to work with AB again. I never thought I would work in Pretoria, SuperSport Park as a coach,” Domingo maintained.
According to the CSA contract agreement, Domingo’s term as a coach will stand null and void from September onwards.
“It is a part of my life that’s over now I’m really looking forward to the next phase of my life,” Domingo remarked.
Earlier, the speculations were doing rounds that England bowling coach Ottis Gibson will join the coaching set-up in South Africa.

Moreover, the Test and T20 skipper Faf du Plessis has somewhat hinted for the fresh inclusion in the management, following the recent 3-1 drubbing in the four-match Investec drubbing against.
Interestingly, Domingo has also applied for another stint as a coach, but this time around he has accepted the fate by stating it would be eventually hard for him to maintain the position.
Pertinently, South Africa is bound to face off Bangladesh next month followed by India and Australia in the home season.
While speaking on T20 format Domingo revealed even now and then there are different challenges being posed in the shortest version of the game.
“It’s T20 cricket. There are eight quality sides, 14 matches, there’s a lot that can happen,” Domingo concluded.
Following the daunting challenges during his tenure, Domingo has further tasted the success by witnessing the national side has further topped the ODI rankings and the longer version of the game too.
Owing to the good relation between de Villiers and Domingo, but both have failed to win the coveted title for the Proteas, as the gutted loss in the 2015 World Cup semi-final at Auckland has further witnessed die-hard fans disparaging the national side.
