What was just a common event turned out to be an ugly one on the first day of the ongoing second Test match between Bangladesh and Australia with captain Steve Smith being the initiator?
With so much at stake, neither the set of players were breathing easy in Chittagong. While the hosts are eyeing a historic series win, the visitors are desperately looking to bounce back after the shocking loss in the first Test, and perhaps, that was the reason behind Steve Smith losing his cool when Shakib Al Hasan tried to steal a single.
The incident happened in the 35th over bowled by fast-bowler Pat Cummins. Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim played the ball back to Cummins who decided to have a go at the batsman and threw the ball in his direction. The ball hit Rahim on his pad before the ball went to backward square after being deflected.
Cummins apologised as soon as the ball hit Rahim’s pad, but in the meantime, Shakib tried to steal a single. However, it did not go down well with Smith who came charging in from the slip cordon and gave the Bangladesh’s all-rounder a piece of his mind.
Here is a clip of that incident:

Meanwhile, Bangladesh recovered from a shaky start to finish the day on 253 for six. The hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and were five down with just 117 runs on the board, but Rahim and Sabbir Rahman came to their rescue. The duo added 105 runs for the sixth wicket before Rahman was sent back by Nathan Lyon for 66. Rahim, meanwhile, held firm from one end and finished the day on 62 while Nassir Hossain was giving him company on 19.
Off-spinner Nathan Lyon was the pick of the bowlers, taking five for 77. Bangladesh is currently leading the two-match series 1-0 after winning the series-opener at Dhaka by 20 runs.
