At this time, Brock Lesnar is set to defend his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. It is going to be the main event for the No Mercy PPV on September 24th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. It is going to be a ‘one of a kind’ match between these two behemoths in the WWE.
The WWE Universe wanted to see this match for a long time now. The Monster among Men was getting the push from the post-Wrestlemania season onwards, and hence he was supposed to get a championship match, sooner. Initially, Great Balls of Fire PPV was supposed to mark this marquee match. But, Strowman suffering an injury nixed that idea from the creative notebook.
To sell out the upcoming Raw-branded PPV, WWE rearranged this huge contest which is going to the biggest attraction of the night. As we have seen in these past weeks on Raw, Braun Strowman is the favourite heading into the match where for the first time since Wrestlemania 30 against the Undertaker, Brock Lesnar is the underdog in a matchup.
Regardless whatever outcome the match witnesses at the PPV, it is certain the beast incarnate is set to miss the next event from the flagship brand in the last week of October. Next time, Raw will host a PPV, will be the annual TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs event.
It will be hosted at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota on October 29th. Incidentally, it is the hometown of the Universal Champion. But, he will not be appearing on the show, as revealed by The Dirty Sheets due to his WWE contract allowing him to appear only in a limited number of dates in the entire year.
With that being said, it’s almost certain that the main event of the PPV will not be contested for the Universal title if Lesnar walks out of No Mercy with the championship. Generally, a TLC match is held for the prime title of the brand, each year. But, with Lesnar being the champion, you should have some backup plans intact since he is bound to take some time off.
