Team India has moved to the number 1 spot in the ICC ODI ranking after the 50-run win over world champions Australia in the second One-Day International at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday (September 21).
Both the teams had entered the series level on points, but the visitors were ahead of the hosts at the second spot on decimal points. However, India leapfrogged the team from Down Under after winning the first two games of the series. In fact, the Men in Blue had gone past Australia when the won the first ODI by 26 (DLS method), and the win on Thursday gave them the supremacy in the 50-over format.
Both India and South Africa are now level on 119 points, but the former one is ahead of the Proteas on decimal points. Virat Kohli & Co. are also leading the rankings in Tests, leading the second-placed South Africa by a huge margin of 15 points. Meanwhile, India needs to win at least two of the remaining three games to retain the number one spot in the 50-over format.

Coming to the match, the story remained quite the same as that of the first ODI. The visitors managed to put up a good bowling performance once again, but faltered with the bat for the second time in a row. After a century-plus stand between Ajinkya Rahane and Virat Kohli set the platform for a big total for the hosts, Australia clawed their way back into the game by restricting the hosts to 252.
However, they could not put up a similar performance with the bat too and were all out for 202.
