The Story
Zimbabwe Cricket has denied the claims of removing their bowling coach – former Proteas’ fast bowler Makhaya Ntini – from his job.
As rumoured that Ntini’s contract as Zimbabwe’s bowling coach, which expires in January next year, will not be renewed. There even some murmurs about Zimbabwe Cricket mulling to fire him before the expiry of contract owing to complaints from several players about his.
Will Deal with Renewal when the Time Arrives
ZC’s managing director Faisal Hasnain told ESPN Cricinfo:
“ZC denies in the strongest possible terms any suggestions that Makhaya has been sacked. When his contract comes up for renewal, will we deal with it in the manner we deal with all our contracts?
“Makhaya is a valued member of our staff, he is highly respected, and he has done some great work. He has his hands full preparing the team for the matches against Netherlands, Pakistan A and then the two Tests against West Indies.”
Zimbabwe has a string of competition lined up in coming months with the most of important of them all – the World Cup qualifiers, due to be played in March next year. Zimbabwe is currently preparing to face neighbours South Africa in a four-day day/night. Later, they will play against Netherlands in Harare next week in three fifty-over matches.
Ntini has served as interim coach of the side before the appointment of Heath Streak along with assisted by former Proteas team-mate Lance Klusener, who is now the batting coach.
