Rohit Sharma has jumped four places to move up to 5th position in the latest ICC ODI batsmen rankings. This is the career-best ranking for the limited overs specialist opener.

Rohit, with 790 ranking points, has joined captain Virat Kohli, the top-ranked batsmen, as the second Indian to find a place in the top-5.

The promotion in ranking charts came as a result of his outstanding performances in the just concluded bilateral series against Australia. He was the leading run-scorer series with 296 runs five matches. His tally included a fluent century – 125 runs, to help Indian nail down the chase of 243-runs in the final ODI.

This century was his 14th ODI century of his career and 6th against Australia, the joint highest by a batsman in ODIs. The first two games of the series were lukewarm for him as he failed to convert his starts into big scores, managing only 28 and seven at Chennai and Kolkata respectively.

However, he quickly git into his natural rhythm and hammered back to back the fifties – 71 and 65 in the following two ODIs at Indore and Bengaluru before scripting last night’s masterclass.

Ajinkya Rahane and Kedar Jadhav also benefitted from the good performances. Rahane gained four places to 24th spot in the rankings whereas Jadhav moved up eight places to number 36 in the world.

Among bowlers, left-arm spinner Axar Patel moved up from 10th place to 7th in the list of bowler-dominated by Imran Tahir, the new number one bowler.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav also registered big gains with Chahal going up 24 places to move up to 75th spot while Kuldeep gained nine places to 80th.
