Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa suffered another setback as one of their most experienced batsman Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the second and last Test match due to a leg injury. Bangladesh has already lost the first Test by an innings and 333 runs, and with the ouster of Tamim Iqbal from the next Test, their hopes of making a comeback in the series are looking very slim.

It is to be learnt that Tamim played in the first Test with a ‘Grade One Tear’ in the left leg which he suffered during the practice match at the beginning of the tour. The Bangladeshi management took Tamim to a local physician in Potchefstroom after the end of the first Test where the doctor ruled out Tamim’s participation in the second Test. His involvement in the upcoming one-day series is also uncertain now.
The team management was hoping that a break from 10-12 days would heal the injured part, but now after the consultation of the local physician, he has been suggested at least four weeks of break from the field.
His absence from the series will hamper Bangladesh’s chances of coming back in the Test series and bring out any meaningful results in the One Day series. Tamim has played 52 Tests for Bangladesh and is their mainstay in the batting lineup.
However, his performance in the first Test was not up to the mark. He scored 39 in the first innings and couldn’t open his account in the second Test as he was clean bowled on 0 by Morne Morkel. Bangladesh was thoroughly dominated by RSA in the first Test as they were bowled out for a mere 90 in the second innings.
The second Test begins on the 6th of October in Bloemfontein.
