Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 16 member squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa and Nasir Hossain had made a comeback to the national ODI squad. Nasir Hossain has made a return to the One Day team after a gap of five months. He last played an ODI in May against New Zealand in a triangular series in Dublin.

Hossain has struggled to cement his place in the national side, and he has been in and out of the side in the recent years. Hossain made his ODI debut in August 2011 against Zimbabwe at the age of 19 when the African team travelled to Bangladesh. Hossain impressed in his first innings as he came into bat with his team struggling at 58-6 and scored 63 to take Bangladesh to a respectable total of 188. However, this was not enough to win the match, but this innings showed the gutsy side of the young batsman.
Hossain has been out of the One Day setup since the Tri-series in Dublin. He was neglected for the Champions Trophy but was then picked up for the Test series against Australia at home which the Tigers drew 1-1. He was again dropped for the Test series against the Proteas.
Hossain in a recent interview said that he always tries to perform well whenever he gets a chance to play for the team. He said:
“It’s team management’s matter. They pick me when they need me. When they don’t, I wasn’t needed. I used to think a lot about it. Now I don’t. Nowadays, I try to play well if I get an opportunity. Or if I don’t get opportunity, I at least try to enter into the team.”
Hossain has played 59 ODI’s for the Tigers and has scored 1,262 runs in 47 innings. He has scored one hundred against Pakistan and had six fifties to his name. He has bowled in 38 innings and had 23 wickets to his name.
