For two consecutive years Indian cricket has been ripped by fixing scandal in the IPL. Once again the ugly side of IPL revealed as Rajasthan Royals player reported that he was allegedly approached by his Ranji team mate for spot fixing just before the start of the tournament this year. While the names of the players weren’t   disclosed at the time, it has come in limelight that the player who was approached in an attempt to fix matches was Pravin Tambe, Hindustan Times reported.   

The newspaper quoted an unnamed source that it was Tambe who had been allegedly approached but name of the Ranji player is still not known. 

Earlier, reports had said a Mumbai-based Rajasthan Royals a player was approached by his Ranji teammate with an offer of money if he agreed to perform a pre decided role in the match.

It was known that, the player had rejected the offer and immediately reported the incident to the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). There were five Mumbai cricketers in the RR squad- Ajinkya Rahne, Pravin Tambe, Dinesh Salunkhe, Dhawal Kulkarni and Abhishek Nayar.  

In April, BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur confirmed the incident in a tweet message.

“A player was approached and he immediately intimated @BCCI anti corruption unit. Glad that BCCI education policy showing positive results,” Thakur had tweeted. 

 

 

It’s been two months since the approach was reported but the investigation is yet to be completed.

“We haven’t received information from the BCCI on who the two players are. We will not know till they inform us,” said Nitin Dalal, MCA treasurer, who was the joint-secretary when the incident came to light.

The BCCI too confirmed that the investigation is still going on.

“The investigation is the subject of the anti-corruption and security unit (ACSU) and once it submits the report, the disciplinary committee of the BCCI will act on it,” BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya told Hindustan Times.
