Indian skipper Virat Kohli is all set to vault into the record books as the right-handed batsman is all set to play his 200th ODI. The moment when he will play the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in New Zealand, Kohli will become only the 14th Indian player to achieve this feat.

Kohli is also one of the successful batsmen in limited overs cricket. In just 199 ODIs, he has a total of 30 centuries to his name and is a proud joint holder of second most centuries in the history along with Ricky Ponting. Only Sachin Tendulkar (49) has more centuries than him. Kohli was close to taking over Ponting during the Kolkata ODI against Australia, but he was dismissed on 92. The Indian skipper would have a chance to achieve this record in his 200th ODI itself.

Apart from that, he is also the holder of the fastest century by an Indian in ODI cricket. He broke the record of Virender Sehwag in 2013 against Australia when he scored a century in in just 52 balls. Sehwag had completed his century in 60 balls.

The moment he will step on the field on Sunday (22nd October), he will also become the proud owner of record of most runs after 200 ODIs in the history. The record for the most number of runs after 200 ODIs is currently held by South Africa’s AB de Villiers, while Sourav Ganguly has scored most runs for India after the same number of matches.

Coming to the Test format, Kohli is the only Indian to score four double centuries in successive series. His first double ton came against Windies, followed by double centuries against New Zealand, England and Bangladesh. However, he did not have a great series against Australia and also missed a Test due to a shoulder injury.

Though he holds an average of 49.55 in the longest format of the game Kohli is yet to score runs in England, which is one of the parameters to test the success of a batsman. Kohli could just muster 134 runs on his tour to England in 2014 at an average of 13.40.

Admittedly, the Indian skipper would like to work on his game in the longest format of the game.
