Bangladesh was hammered in both the Test series as well as the One Day series at the hands of South Africa in South Africa. Bangladesh avoided an innings defeat in the first Test match, however; South Africa claimed an innings defeat in the second Test. This tour has been a forgettable one for the Bangladeshi team who has been a lethal team at home but has struggled on overseas tours.

Mashrafe Mortaza who is their limited overs skipper has left the squad and will travel back home, hopes that the T20I series will not be as one-sided as the Test series and One Dayers were. Mortaza is banking on the experience of Shakib Al Hasan in the T20 series and hopes that the Bangladesh will be able to turn the tables and win the T20 series.
Video of the day:
Mortaza said:
“To me, the best person is here to lead. A whole new series to come. I think if we could overcome what happened in the Test and ODI and get started newly, we could do better in the T20Is.”

Mortaza feels that Shakib has the capability to motivate the youngsters and lead the team to achieve the desired results:
“There is nothing to prove about Shakib Al Hasan’s strength. He is a champion in everywhere. He is the best performer of Bangladesh and would be a nice captain too. Of course it is not possible for him to do everything alone. If all other would perform as a team, we will have better chance to win.”
According to him, Bangladesh’s failure in all the department was the reason for the disastrous results in both the Tests and One Day Internationals. He pointed out the poor batting performance in the entire series,
“We could not perform well in anywhere; whether that be in batting, bowling and fielding. Whatever we might do, could fail to deliver because of being mentally weak. The batting was frustrating and unexpected. We should have scored bigger innings.”

He concluded by saying that his team will learn a lot from this tough away tour of South Africa and said that his team would have to work hard in the future to have the desired results in the future:
“We have received quite a good lesson. Neither of our bowlers or batsmen could take the responsibility. I think everyone of us personally work out the reasons of our failures and work on that. It is not possible to overcome these lacking even in hard practice for rest of the days here. This is a long term process. We will have to prepare accordingly before appearing any future series in these sort of condition.”
