One of the greatest wicket-keeper batsmen Adam Gilchrist has questioned Indian team’s capability of winning outside of India.
India has been on a rampage at home, winning all the series since they last lost to South Africa in 2015. The Men in Blue has dominated all the touring teams be it Australia, Sri Lanka, England or New Zealand at home.
India has dominated the touring teams in both Tests and ODI format. India defeated England in the Test and ODI series in late 2016. India then began 2017 by defeating Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy and also beat Bangladesh in the one-off the Test match.
India also reached the finals of the Champions Trophy in England, but Gilchrist still feels that even after so much such success at home, India needs to win overseas to prove their potential in the cricketing community.
Gilchrist said,
“They (India) play really well in their home conditions. But we can judge them if they win away. The challenge for India is to go abroad and win Test matches overseas, to win One Day Internationals (ODIs) there.”
India will be on away tours for most of the 2018 season beginning with a full series in South Africa from January. India will also tour England as well as Australia later in the year. India is yet to win a series in Australia and South Africa as well.
The next ICC tournament will be the Cricket World Cup in 2019 in England and Gilly, as he is famously known feels that India will have to play consistently if they want to win the Cup,
“They have always been competitive team in World Cup formats, but they have to be consistent in playing,”
Gilchrist also congratulated veteran Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra who retired from competitive cricket after the first T20 against New Zealand which India won by 53 runs. He said,
“Ashish was a wonderful competitor. He is a player one remembers with great fondness. He was a very skilful bowler and a terrific opponent,”
Gilchrist also lauded the young Indian team which has performed well under the captaincy of Virat Kohli. He credited the Indian skipper for motivating the Indian team to this level and said that the young and energetic group of players is responding very well to the captain.
