Team India skipper Virat Kohli surpassed former Sri Lanka opener Tillakaratne Dilshan to become all-time second highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. The 28-year old achieved the feat during the ongoing second T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot.
Before the start of the game, Kohli needed 15 runs to surpass Dilshan’s tally of 1889 runs, and he reached the landmark when he scored a single off Ish Sodhi in the seventh over. Dilshan scored his runs in 80 games while Kohli, who is currently the best T20I batsman in the world, broke his record in his 54th game.
The right-handed batsman, who is also the only player with a 50-plus average in the shortest format of the game, now trails former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum who has scored 2140 runs in 71 matches.
