Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has laughed off Manchester City’s £49million transfer of Raheem Sterling by saying that City have paid too much to sign the 20-year old winger.

Carragher is a renowned columnist at Sportsmail and he was asked several questions on Sterling’s expensive move to the Etihaad stadium. Carragher explained how City have been held to hostage by Liverpool in signing the brightest talent of English football.

According to Carragher, maximum worth for Sterling should be around £25-30million, however, City’s desperate needs of signing an English player has led them to pay an extra £15-19million.

On being asked whether Sterling or agent are right in getting away with the deal, Carragher exclaimed how these days players like to get out of the back-door and agents play a vital role in that.

Next question for Liverpool is that where should they invest the money from Sterling’s sale? So far, Christian Benteke (£32million) tops the list for Brendan Rodgers as The Reds are still in hunt for a striker.

Benteke’s release clause stands at £32.5million and having received £49million from Sterling’s sale, Liverpool must splash the cash on Aston Villa hitman.

Following his big-money money, Sterling will always be reminded of his price tag and being a young kid, he needs to play at his highest levels to keep the critics in check.

As Manchester City complete Raheem Sterling’s transfer, Liverpool began their pre-season tour in Bangkok beating Thai All Stars 4-0 with new boy Devock Origi scoring on his Liverpool debut.
